I'm sure this sort of thing has been done many times before, but given the timing it seems like a good idea....
So the launch of Vista is leading many others to find out what many of us here already know: that there is no 'wow' in Vista (except maybe the price, as in 'wow, I have to pay how much?'). It occurs to me, that, since we can now expect more people to start to look at switching to Linux, we should perhaps try to explain some of the things that make us go 'wow' about Ubuntu. Who knows, it might even help to persuade some of them to make the move.
For me (and I'm sure for many of you also), some of the real 'wows' include:
(a) The price, as in 'wow, you mean I get all this for free'?
(b) Security, as in 'wow, you mean I don't have to worry about viruses any more'?
(c) Freedom and choice, as in 'wow I can configure this any way I like, experiment with various desktops, try out different distros, and make free copies for other people'
(d) Beryl/Compix - as in just 'wow' (I can't think of flop-3D without laughing at this point!) :D In my experience though, when regular citizens of windows flatland see this for the first time, the reaction is not simply 'wow', but a deep and profound ontological shock that sounds more like 'wuuuu....h...h..h' (followed by the sound of involuntary dribbling).
So, what makes you go 'wow' at Linux / Ubuntu
