I'm just checking to see if anyone can point me to the picture I'm looking for.
I've seen it before, probably in some show your desktop thread - not necessarily on ubuntuforums.org. It's a picture of Earth from space. Very beautiful picture. I don't know if it's a really photograph or computer generated. I'm thinking computer generated.
If you know what I'm talking about and know where it is please reply with a link. Or if you have a different picture post that :-)

Yep, but the one I'm looking for only has part of earth. The sun might be rising on the horizon.., I can't remember.
No biggy, just thought I'd ask in case someone knows which picture I'm talking about (I know, fat chance since there are thousands of space pictures 8-) )

Sorry, I have to resurrect this post again. I finally came across the website where I originally saw the picture.

Does anyone know where I can find the picture this person is using for their desktop?
Thanks!

Do you mean this - I think its one of the most famous ones - (I have it as my desktop wallpaper) - Its called "Earthrise at Christmas" and it was taken by the crew of apollo 8 in 1968 when they were in orbit around the moon (the first time a manned mission had left earths orbit)

Here's when that is very similar, it's computer generated and goes from night to day. http://www.desktoprating.com/wallpapers/dark-earth-wallpaper-1152x864.htm

That's pretty cool.
I contacted the author of the screencast, the desktop image was created using a program called Xplanet (http://xplanet.sourceforge.net/). Neat piece of software - playing with it now :)
