View Full Version : What's with all the weird Linux themes? (for lack of a better word)

What I'm wondering is why everything Ubuntu (as far as I can tell) is based on an object...

Like Ubuntu and coffee. Just look around on the forums...you'll see what I mean quickly enough. Xubuntu and mice, Sabayon and chickens, and so on. Do these people just like the themes...or is there another reason? Just food for thought!

What's with all the Windows in Windows.

Free-software is community developed, and the mascots add a bit of personality to the project, making the whole process a whole lot more fun. The programmers also get more personally attached to the projects it there's a penguin or a daemon associated with it.

I'll take a chicken anyday over a crashy, buggy OS.

I often have strong urges for coffee simply by browsing this board. It's a little scary ;)

You always need a mascot to represent some software. Otherwise how would people identify it?(most humans can remember a picture better than a name you know).
