Have you filled in the 'About Me' section?
What are the pros and cons of doing so?

I have never touched that. Don't know what it is really used for except for you to put down your contacts.

Used it, but I don't know why!

Can anyone enlighten us?

I already know everything about me. What can my computer tell me!?

One thing I used it for was to put a login photo for me.

Well, I on the other hand always keep forgetting things about me. Where I live ... What my last name is ..

tssss.... and always when I come back from going out :d

On a serious note. I filled it in... but never use it, except for the login picture. I'm not even sure what it's for.

I hadn't even noticed it yet, to be honest. Mind you, I haven't had Ubuntu for all that long, either. I'm kind of curious as to what the purpose of it is, though.

I choose a Login pic from that menu, that was it.

There are some bugs associated with exactly of not making it clear what that applet is for. [#80899] (https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/control-center/+bug/80899) [#3574] (https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/control-center/+bug/3574)

On Gnome 2.12 - What's New For Users (http://www.gnome.org/start/2.12/notes/en/rnusers.html) they write:

About Me

GNOME now has a new About Me control panel in which you can enter your personal details, such as your telephone numbers, address, email address, and instant-messenger IDs, instead of repeating the information in several applications. You can also change your password here.

So it is supposed to be a hub app that contains your info to be used by other apps, although I think it isn't very much in use right now.

(I didn't write anything in mine, btw)

Mine is blank. I never knew what to do with it. Has anyone changed their password with it?
Successfully of course!

I personally fill out all of the About Me pages; Jabber, Ubuntu, anything I find on my computer I'll fill in. I just try not to get too personal with the information I put there, otherwise the pages could backfire.

Nope, I know who I am, I know what I look like. No pics or information necessary. Plus I don't want to give the computer the impression that our relationship is anything more than business.

I only use it to change my user Avatar

Where would the Avatar show up? (Which applications would display your 'About Me' avatar?)

Just like Sukran said, it shows up when you log-in, on GDM (Where you type your user name and password to login)

You can get different kind of GDM at http://www.gnome-look.org

Some GDM theme let you select your user name by selecting it in a list, there your "avatar" shows-up. LIKE THIS (http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php?content=49916) or This (http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php?content=28380)
