I'm sorry to report that 20070119 i386 alternate iso doesn't boot :(
It stops just after displaying:

it looks like my DVD drive mutinied and refused to read one of my CD-RW so I had to burn another one. Anyway: it boots correctly, however there are still problems with identifying partitions as described here (http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=339403)
