What do you think is the most professional modern desktop theme?

I just used Windows XP 2005 with Media Center and it looked so clean and professional. The font s look formal and are very readable, the icon themes are clean, the Start Menu looks very professional, etc.

The default OS X theme looks good too. It is also very professional and very modern.

I believe that the default Ubuntu theme looks professional but it doesn't look modern for me and I don't like the brown theme.

The Kubuntu theme looks fine for me too. For me, it is modern enough but I don't find it that formal. It's sort of youthful.

What I am interested in is a theme whose color is black, white or whatever shade of gray. I also like it to look professional, formal, and modern. Lastly, I like it to be distinctly Linux. I don't like copies of themes from Windows or Mac.

What do you think will fit what my needs?

I like to use a combination of Human/Tango and gPerfection2. That works nicely for me, icon-wise.

I think the default Ubuntu with GNOME looks very professional, and I think that the default KDE just looks like a cheap Mac OS Ripoff.

Use the Industrial theme then, if you don't like the brown. Personally I like it a lot.

I don't like XP themes for that matter, and though I like the way the Mac looks, I always revert to the Ubuntu color scheme on my desktop.

I actually really like the Silver XP Theme, but the default Blue and Green is just horrible. Silver though, looks very smart and professional!

That's really nice. I like the OS X look a lot. It's just that, I don't want copies of other OS's. I want it to look distinctly Linux

If you have a look at some openSuse 10.2 screenshots, that looks very professional.

Basically I think Gnome has the best "feel" to it of any environment I've used. I use it mainly with Clearlooks/Clearlooks 2/Gilouche themes. But this is probably a very personal choice anyway.

hey this isnt a theme its a window manager but i really love the look of fvwm-crystal

its in the repos

sudo aptitude install fvwm-crystal

choose it from the sessions menu before you log in

you will be awed by the speed and beauty of it!

I just use Neutrino controls, MetaTivo-2.0 window (but, maybe I'll change it...) and Mist icons.

But it's really a personal taste. I just like a little of light blue (I think it's easier on the eyes).

1. Look for a similair theme on gnome-look.org and istall it
2. You can edit your existing theme to look like that, they tell you what Icons it uses and also give you palette information.
3. Wait until it is released then simply just copy it.

I happen to think e17 has a very professional theme about it, and its very much linux centric. See screenshot. Its very slick, cool animated backgrounds, and animations in general.

I think openSuSe has the most professional looking desktop. Even when you turn on XGL it still looks very professional. Not as cool, and without as many features as Beryl, but certainly has professionalism.

I so damn agree with you. I just hate the font face and the lame window border (in my opinion, at least)! hahahaha

What's good about it is the very professional splash screen, wallpaper, icons, and all that.
