Hi all. I've just migrated from Fedora to Ubuntu, I'm new to Linux, and I got tired of the problems I had in fc, now Ubuntu is installed and not 1 problem so far.

As I say, haven't been using this system for long and at some stage I'd like to run my own server. I'm not sure what kind, most probably an ftp server to begin with. I would've liked to run an irc server at some point but, that won't be any time soon for reasons I'm sure some of you're familiar with.

Anyway, I would just like to know, what kinds of things I should be getting myself involved with at the moment. I'm interested in everything really, networking..security etc, programming and scripting , but I would like to your opinions on the best place to begin. At the moment I'm just learning shell commands

Welcome to Ubuntu!

Shell commands are a good place to start. Keep at it. I recommend doing as much as you can in the Terminal. Gives you more control then graphical and makes you feel more geeky.

Unfortunately, I can't advise what to move onto from here.
