Network Monitor (the icon one showing wireless signal quality)
Sensors Applet
Battery Monitor
CPU Speed Monitor
Tomboy
Wanda the Fish
Deskbar
Music Applet (can't live without it)
Keyboard Indicator
Terminal Server Client (might remove it soon)
Weather Applet
Window Selector

and of course the default set
Gnome Menu
Trash Applet
Volume Applet
Logoff Applet
Clock
Show Desktop Button
Window List
Notification Area
Workspace Selector

and a couple of launchers.

Some of the hardware-related stuff is only on the laptop though.

I have these applets (from left to right) on a single panel sitting on the bottom:

Gnome App/Places/System menu
Firefox launcher
Home folder launcher
Synaptic launcher
Deskbar
Windows Selector
Notification Area
Timer applet (not default, got it through Synaptic, very handy)
Weather Applet
Volume
Trash
Clock

I use to have the Show Desktop button at the far right but then I installed Brightside which lets me just throw my cursor to the corner to show the desktop. I also used to have the Workspace switcher but now I just switch workspaces using keyboard hotkeys.

Not much besides the default, just Deskbar in the lower right corner and System Monitor, Tomboy, and Netapplet in the upper right.

As for shortcuts I just have a few for epiphany, evolution, geany and synaptic.

I don't change very much. I use the defaults and then add Tomboy, System Monitor and Network Monitor, and I've also recently started adding the Deskbar too.

Other shortcuts I add are for Amarok and Liferea.

i use these -

Tomboy
Beagle Desktop Search
Sticky Notes
Mini Terminal (for launching stuff instead of alt-F2)
Weather
Network Connection
Processor, Disk and Network Monitor (they are all part of the same applet)

i think that's it. i have got another really cool one though called Desktop Recorder. it records my desktop and puts the output on the desktop when it's finished

i think i tried that before and it won't compile. the "deskbar" is the only alternative, but it's a memory hog.

well i just looked for it and there are other posts about it being removed from 2.14. there's this -
http://ftp.gnome.org/pub/GNOME/sources/gnome-applets/

maybe the 2.14 version of that will work  but i bet it doesn't lol

ohh, nice, thanks.

not sure if I want it now though. it launches terminal commands in the background instead of launching a terminal :(

Nm-applet. Wasn't sure if it would work with Fluxbox, but it does. Very useful.
