It is the final version. Too bad they only made an RPM and an installer.

oo nice, i will install now

i just used the installer (tar.gz) as all the script does is simply put the flashplayer.so and flashplayer.xpt or whatever in your /home/username/.mozilla directory.

I've updated the Psychocats tutorial to reflect this change from beta to official release:

Why? I ran the installer no problem. I probably could have used alien to install the rpm too. It works, be glad :-)

It's an installer? I thought it was the actual plugin...

It is the plugin all the installer does is copy the files to whatever directory you tell it.

Didn't see any reason why this should be in Feisty, as Flash 9 is installable for Dapper and Edgy as well. Plus, there's already an announcement. So I've merged the two.

That bug was not going to be fixed the developer had written this on his blog a long time ago maybe 6-7 months back. That bug of javascript menus going under is claimed to be a browser bug and not flash bug. This problem doesn't not occur in Konqueror AFAIK it only affects mozilla/gecko based browsers and there is a bug filed in bugzilla of mozilla for it.

Download and run the installer. Works perfect.

ERROR: Opera is not supported.

As Cartman would say: Screw you Adobe, I'm going home.

That happens with the installer, let's see what it does if I manually install it for Opera...

Yeah OK, but I like to keep everything neat :D Perhaps I'll install it with checkinstall when I feel like it but I have the beta anyway so I'm not in such a hurry ;)

Seems to be working like betas. Crashing every now and then.
Not nice at all Adobe, not nice at all.

Works fine here. Great news. One question though.
During the installation (I used the installer as a normal user) it said "ask your admin to remove xpd.dat (or something like that)).
What is that? Should I remove anything>?

I have not gotten around to that part yet. No problems to report.

after months of excuses and delays, adobe has FINALLY got the official release of flash 9 out:
http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash

I suggest using the tar installer as its a bit better then the RPM, just unzip the file after you download it, then go into its containing folder
here open up a terminal (I suggest you install the nautilus open terminal plgin that is in synaptics repo's, it makes things a lot easier)
in the terminal type in ls
after this type sudo sh and just copy the "flashplayer-installer" link
so that your teminal looks like this:

sudo sh flashplayer-installer

press enter and then enter your password
after that press enter again
then again

now you will get this dialog:

Please enter the installation path of the Mozilla, SeaMonkey,
or Firefox browser (i.e., /usr/lib/mozilla):
to make the installer go to firefox just type in /usr/lib/firefox
this will install the plugin right away for mozilla firefox users.
now for opera users, or konqueror users please keep in mind that Konqueror and opera isnt as well supported here, but to get opera and konq to have the plugin I suggest you just open up another terminal
type in sudo nautilus
this will open nautilus in root mode, from here go to the /usr/lib/firefox folder
then copy the "libflashplayer.so" file
then go to /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins
and just paste the plugin, this will make it readable to opera and konq...
there is a RPM but it kinda sucks.

If you want this plugin in Opera, run the installer and just select the /usr/lib/mozilla directory that Opera wil catch it there. I did so.
Try the result at http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/welcome/ (there is a rectangle with "about" to select).

Can someone who has installed this indicate whether there is any improvement over beta 2?

There is something fishy about the way this release was handled. For months, there were several regular blog entries from Adobe's developers detailing progress on development of the Linux version of Flash. They all went silent on November 20, with the release of beta 2. Promised features for the final release, such as full-screen viewing, did not make the final. It's almost as if most of the team was pulled from the project after beta 2 was released, with Adobe slapping a "final" label on the little work that wrapped up after that point.

Just tried it out. It's much improved from the betas and light years ahead of Flash 7. I've only made it skip once so far, and barely at that.

does it work at 16-bit depth instead of 24 now? I remember it usually crashes the browser at 16.
