Does anyone know if it's worth paying the cover price on this book? http://www.chapters.indigo.ca/books/item/books-978067232909/0672329093/Ubuntu+Unleashed?ref=Search+Books%3a+'ubuntu' (http://www.chapters.indigo.ca/books/item/books-978067232909/0672329093/Ubuntu+Unleashed?ref=Search+Books%3a+%27ubuntu%27)
I saw it in our local boxstore bookstore this evening, and I was somewhat in a rush, so I didn't have the time to really leaf through it.
But what I really want to know is whether the cover price is worth it? Can I get all the stuff included on forums and wikis, or are there advantages to having it a book like this?

I recommend "Ubuntu for Non-Geeks":

http://www.amazon.com/Ubuntu-Linux-Non-Geeks-Project-Based-Get-Things-Done/dp/1593271182/sr=1-5/qid=1168996557/ref=sr_1_5/103-4484066-1119047?ie=UTF8&s=books

I have that, the one you mentioned, Ubuntu Hacks, and The Official Ubuntu Book.

Of them all, I recommend Ubuntu for Non Geeks

teejay17, that is the book I got for Christmas. It came from borders and was 49.99. I think it is an awesome book, and I haven't even scratched the surface.

Good point. I was wondering about that as well. I know in the case of the book Ubuntu for Non-Geeks, having Edgy instead of Dapper was not that big of a deal. Things were still pretty much the same.
Nonetheless, "Ubuntu" is a more advanced book, so maybe that means there will be less compatibility?

well, it has a whole section on perl, python, and php that pretty much transcends the ubuntu version.

No, I don't think it will matter very much. But if you don't want to spend money on the book, you could get it at the library, and see if you like it.

Yeah, that's a good point. Now it's to find a library that has such a book. :-k
