How fast you can send/receive data to this particular server at the particular time you run the test tells you next to nothing about the quality of your internet connection. Useless test.

The limiting factor for pretty much everyone should be that you're communicating with a server that's very far away. There's a long way between Japan and Malta.

And of course I realize that it's just for fun, but always when there are threads like this, some people will think there's something wrong with their connection just because they get poor download speed from a server that is located half across the world.

Your download speed: 3.977 Megabits per second
Your upload speed: 2.042 Megabits per second

When testing with speedtest.net you can select servers. Testing against Swedish server I can get ~34m Megabits. (At home.) Selecting a server in USA or some other remote place and I can get ~10.

This is a good test if you want to know how good your routing to Malta is, but it tells you nothing else. For a better test of your connection, pick a number of ISPs (in your country or other countries) that you frequently communicate with and find a fast server with each ISP and speed test to them. You will find that speeds vary greatly depending on which ISP you're testing against and that the further away it is, the slower it is.

Not that fast, actually.. but it's all free since the ISP's director is my uncle :guitar:

In summer I worked a bit my uncle's ISP at Waldonet, a leading Maltese ISP..and I decided to make use of the bandwith.

of course, with the ISP servers about...hmm...20 m away from me.

I could download cds faster than I could burn them!!

EDIT : I believe the slow speed may be due to a fubared telephone connection...
