i'm not the greatest 'instant messager' in the world. none of my friends really use instant messagers much so i only use IRC, and then only #freenode. i know there are some good networks/channels on IRC, so can someone tell me which ones you like?

Before switching to Linux, I used to connect to Undernet, where I had some trivia channel. Now I only use Freenode and constantly join #ubuntuforums, #ubuntu-ro (for the Romanian Ubuntu users) and ##c. For chatting I really recommend #ubuntuforums.

I have 4 networks that I connect to - two of them are darknets - i.e, two servers or less, and address can only be found by those that go to particular fan sites.

I also have a channel on Undernet that I go to - #userfriendly - which is connected to http://www.userfriendly.org.

I use #zenwalk, #ubuntuforums, and #freenode-social on Freenode.
