Hey all,

Was looking to get my hands on a good Linux reference book. I know there's tons of info online, but I like having something physical I can hold and peruse without having stare at a computer screen.

The two I'm looking at so far are:

The Linux Bible 2005 Edition (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0764579495/ref=pd_sbs_b_3/104-0222543-9874313?%5Fencoding=UTF8&v=glance) [Amazon]
How Linux Works (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1593270356/qid=1115821999/sr=2-1/ref=pd_bbs_b_2_1/104-0222543-9874313) [Amazon]

I'm looking for a good general reference, non-distro-specific.

Any recommendations? :D

The Linux Administration Handbook (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0130084662/103-0964160-4267011?v=glance), hands down. Read it, learn it, live it.

Has anyone read 'Linux in a nutshell'
It is a quick reference from O'Reilly.

I found "Running Linux" from O'Reily very nice:

Thanks for the suggestions!

I've got "Running Linux," but it's an older version from 1999 I believe.

Has anyone read the two I've listed above? How Linux Works or The Linux Bible?

dataw0lf, I may check into the one you listed... I like the looks of it.

Any other suggestions more than welcome! :D

Ok if you seriously want to learn linux, inside out, from the earliest of noob tasks to well compiling your own kernel and such, the book for you is this (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0782142265/qid=1115844662/sr=8-1/ref=pd_csp_1/104-0745480-5086315?v=glance&s=books&n=507846) one. that is by far the best linux book on the market, and yes im biased, why because i own the book and really love it.

I ordered this (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0072225645/qid=1115936974/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i1_xgl14/103-1285436-6171056?v=glance&s=books&n=507846) book a few days ago. It's about Linux security, you might want to add it to your collection. It's got a 5 star rating based on 40 reviews. That's not bad ;)
I haven't received it yet but it won't be long now, probably next week :-)
