There's also a guide specifically for Debian- what's in the Ubuntu guide
is known as the Debian Way, and exists for a reason (it's all you
really need to know).

The only thing I would add is to make sure the kernel headers are
installed. 95% of the failed Nvidia installs are due to lacking kernel
headers.
