I heard someone say a while back that there were some linux-dist for Playstation1(PSX) as a boot-disc. Is it just ******** or does it exist?

I don't know about the PS1 but I thought there was something with the PS2 hard drive unit and it coming with a linux install.

I do know that there was a Linux port for the Dreamcast and someone was running a very simple web server on a Dreamcast once.

There are PS2, XBX, GameBoy, GameBoy Advace linux distributions. Im sure the other consoles have one, I just dont know them. You can ask @ ps2nfo.com forums.

Hum...three replies without answer. If I say PS1 I DON'T mean PS2/dreamcast/xbox or anything else.

Well, with these poor replies I searched like crazy and found out that there was one you could get at www.runix.ru, but it was down and probably canceled.

Found after som really booring searching the downloads here:
ftp://ftp.ware.ru/pub/unix/linux/kernel/

Don't think that PS1 is that good to use linux on with its 2MB memory, but gotta test it :p

Try running a port of "Damn Small Linux" the orginal was approx 2mb, but the newest version is about 40mb. Burn to a black cd (ps1) and see what happens. O:)

Wouldn't it be able to somehow use a hdd/usb-memory connected to the parallell/serial-port of the PSX?? :)
Well the hardware would still not be any good, but it would be really cool :D

StacyWebb: have never seen any black discs for burning before :S

Memorex does make them, your local bestbuy or circuit city should have them. Good place to start.

i have a version of linux that runs on the dreamcast off the CD.

thats how we ran the devkit for dreamcast, a dreamcast with a network port, linux cd, and an open source 3d engine...

it's a lot of fun =)
