All right, kids . . . I know there are a few of us, and there may be more . . . (k)Ubuntu users in NYC! Why aren't we meeting yet?

I know Sal has proposed this (http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=170003&highlight=new+york)in the past, and I'm bringing it up again . . . let's start and Ubuntu LUG! And soon . . .

It's time . . .

Cuz us New Yorker is unfriendly and paranoid :)

Ubuntu Joe
October 24th, 2006, 10:56 PM
But you're Russian Ukrainian! You're not UNfriendly . . . And, I'm from Baltimore, so I ken reed! ("Baltimore, the City that Reads," says the bilboard . . . the next bilboard says, "Illiterate? Call 1 (866) CAN - READ . . . Morons.)

Now, Sal on the other hand IS from NYC, and yet, he totally met me at Starbucks and hooked me up with all the Ubuntu distros and even partitioned my C: Drive because he's awesome!

We just need someone from Staten Island and Manhattan and then we can take over the Five Boroughs . . .

There's NYLUG (http://www.nylug.org/home/index.shtml) and DeLUGE (http://www.delugeny.org/). Why does there need to be a seperate Ubuntu LUG?

DeLUGE seems to meet monthly, and NYLUG probably meets pretty regularly, too.

I've been to one or two meetings of each, but it's not realy my thing. I was pretty much dragged to the meetings by a friend.

Not the same . . .

Well, if you attend the meetings of an existing group, you'll learn a lot. I'm sure you'll meet other Ubuntu users, and maybe discuss with them the possibility of an Ubuntu LUG.

How dose everyone feel about a nice coffee shop in the east village of manhattan for a day long Ubuntu/Kubuntu Meetup?

Please comment with your best times and what you think of this place:
http://www.bcupcafe.com/page1.html

we could meet up there and then at night maybe head over to one of the local bars. I do want to have the main meet-up someplace like the coffee shop because of underage Ubuntu/Kubuntu users who might attend.

been having a lot of success . . . . I just tried out the Kubuntu desktop . . . didn't like it too well, but now my Gnome is messed up . . .

Even after I deleted Kubuntu-desktop . . .

Hmmm

I'm looking forward to Feisty Fawn . . .

Before I format and start over with Feisty, I'll have to show you my "Ubuntu from scratch" file . . . just to make sure my syntax is correct.

I still miss iTunes . . . the store was so great . . . and having on program that robust was nice . . .

Otherwise, I'm a huge advocate of Ubuntu . . . been converting my family to the way of the penguin, and proud of it!

Hey guys,

Yeah I was trying to start a NYC loco team. Apparently our good friend Salvatore Carini beat me to it ;). I have however joined the team. As Mackenzie astutely noted my name is Yosef ;).

so.. Yosef=yharrow=fragmented_user

If you live in NY and are interested in actively promoting linux I highly recommend that you join the team. As far as I can tell, all you need to do is edit the NYC Team home page (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/NYCTeam) to include your name and you're in.

Also, I recommend expanding the scope of our projects and memberships to include users within the entire state of NY as opposed to the city alone. Worst comes to worst we can create a new team for the entire state of New York although I think it would be fairly redundant.
