Hey guys,

It has been a few years since I have built a PC from start and with all the new processors and whatnot out there, I would like some help narrowing down my selections. I have created 2 wish lists @ Newegg.com and will post the links here. Please let me know which you think is better AND if you have any suggestions outside my lists... let me know:)

My goals are to build a system on Edgy and Beryl if that helps.

AMD System:

Intel System:

Gracias in Advance!

Yes, go with intel. For some nice recommendations and a good base to start with, see my post (Post #9) at this thread: http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=332695 There are some decent tips in there, especially for going dual core.

Thanks! I will go the Intel route... any thoughts on a board that will get me around all the Jmicron SATA issues?

From an AMD fan, another go Intel. The Core 2's are where it is at. If you get a Core 2 watch out for the ones that don't support VT*. If you care for virtualisation the VT extensions will allow you to run KVM when it comes out.

*this might not be a problem. IIRC only some laptop variants have no VT but check anyway. Wiki has a list of them.

I put together a Core 2 Duo system a month ago - I used an ASUS P5N32-SLI SE Deluxe which uses nVidia's nForce 4 chipset. Been working great. Uses the nForce chipset for IDE and 4 SATA drives, plus two more ports (one external-SATA) on a Silicon Images chipset.

This particular board is pretty loaded - I decided to go pretty nice. There are a few others that use the nForce chipset that are cheaper.

Thanks for the input man... I was reading up on that chipset last night and had all but decided on it. Your positive experience with one of the boards based on it has sealed the deal:)
