Hi,
I am considering upgrading from Dapper x86 to the 64 bit version of Edgy. I have an AMD64 processor that could handle the 64 bit transformation. However, before I plunge into the world of 64 bit, which I know is not yet problem-free, I would like to know if my troubles upgrading to 64 bit would be worth the performance gained by 64 bit.

Can anybody who has used the 64 bit version of Ubuntu (doesn't have to be Edgy) speak up as far as it's performance, as compared to 32 bit software?

No big difference. Flash only being 32bit was a showstopper for me.:-|

On dapper 6.06 I got about the same speed from an optimized 32 bit kernel, as I had with the 64 bit system ( about 10% ). So I just installed 32 bit when switching to edgy.
But I OC'ed my Athlon 64 just for fun. 8)
From 2.0 Ghz to 2.5 Ghz. It maxes at 2.6 Ghz but I keep it at 2.5 for 100% stability.
My system now runs faster than my brothers dual core. :p

But be careful if you try this, I corrupted all data on my hd in the process. ](*,)

Running 64-bit Edgy here. The only problem I encountered that is specific to 64-bit is usplash not working. Setting up Flash, Skype and some other 32-bit only stuff was a charm through Automatix2 anyway.

64-bit won't give you a huge performance boost, but it is an overall boost. Besides, more people running 64 bit systems = more people reporting issues = better future versions.
