can someone explain why they are different as I can edit both and it seems crazy having two locations for documentation-why not just have either docs or wiki

http://help.ubuntu.com - contains the official Ubuntu documentation

http://help.ubuntu.com/community - being targeted as the new community/user-submitted documentation site, formerly http://wiki.ubuntu.com

http://wiki.ubuntu.com - this was formerly used to to hold the user-submitted guides and documentation. They are in the process of moving those guides to http://help.ubuntu.com/community. http://wiki.ubuntu.com will become a developers' wiki, for placing development information, specs, etc. It might soon be renamed to dev.ubuntu.com for that purpose.

If it's a guide/howto, it probably will. If it's a personal wiki (like most devs have), it will probably stay.

There is also the Ubuntu Document Storage Facility (http://doc.gwos.org), which takes how-tos from the forums, and puts them in a convenient quick place to find them. I am one of the UDSF admins, and the site is run by KingBahamut.

We are currently in the process of working on our Hardware Compatibility List.

thanks so how would the best way be to make the document findable in several locations while keeping them all up to date? hyperlink to one location perhaps?

help.ubuntu.com is for documentation. wiki.ubuntu.com is for everything else. Sure there is some documentation there, but it will eventually be obsolete or moved to the help.ubuntu.com site. The wiki is for the whole gammut of community functions it provides with the exception of documentation. They were once all together but they were recently split up for easier management.

Is that a laptop? It should be under the LaptopTesting pages, if that's the case...

I thought it was under laptop, from a basic scribble that I started several people have altered and added to the page and I'm hoping it will turn into a decent reference document for the hp dv6000 series of laptops.

so should it stay a wilki page as help.ubuntu.com seems to not be public editable and the guide is nowhere near complete?

thanks
