Y Halo Thar!

I'd like to start listening to some online shows. I know that there are some awesome ones available, but I just cant find them. At the moment, I'm only listening to the Linux Action Show (linuxactionshow.com). Can you, please, propose me some comedy, art related, random or whatever good shows to follow (I'm immune to swearing, so bring it on!)

Thanks!

I like the Linux Link Tech Show (http://tllts.org/), some good guests and they know their stuff.

Lug Radio (http://www.lugradio.org/) is kinda okay.. I guess.

wtf! lugradio is awesome! although the humour can be a bit british at times but that's no bad thing :D

it's pretty poignant, whilst still being funny, and will probably test your swearing endurance ;)

Yeah, as a Brit I definitely appreciate the humour, just I prefer the more technical orientation of tllts, & the fact they try out different stuff instead of going on about Ubuntu over and over. Anyway, I still listen occasionally.

Didn't know these types of shows existed. Gonna give them a try!

Anyone listen to this before?

Hi.

www.wfmu.org is a new jersey based freeform radiostation. I can recommend it. They have the Seven Second Delay show which is good if you give it a chance. www.sevenseconddelay.blogspot.com. Art stuff would på Kenny G's show. But check out the blog as well blog.wfmu.org. It is all free and without commercials. The station plays "hippie noise".

They also have a huge archive and a search engine that is able to find any song and give you the direct link into the archive. Great for checking out a cd before buying it.

There's also the Linux Reality podcast and the Lottalinuxlinks podcast. Both good.

IMO
LugRadio > Linux LInk Tech Show (the latter has too much dead air // aimless banter, while the LR banter is much tighter

Linux Reality and LottaLinuxLinks are good for beginner types, and as they are one man shows, there's no banter as such.

I'll try these two!

(By the way, I would like something non-Linux specific)

hi, you can take my feedlist.opml from liferea if you like? it has about 1000 feeds in total - podcasts/radio, linux blogs and news, video downloads, science podcasts, security news etc, etc. i've taken a screenshot which shows some of the linux podcasts. there are more links out of view :)

i've delete some inappropriate things, but if i missed anything - so-be-it lol

to use it you have to install liferea -

sudo aptitude install liferea then replace the default feedlist.opml from /home/USERNAME/.liferea with this one -

If you want to listen to Linux podcasts, then might I suggest the Ubuntu Podcast? www.ubuntuos.com. Currently on holiday, but back soon. It's the absolute best podcast you'll ever listen to. EVER. :-P

I once did a comedy podcast called "Bend Over And I'll Show You". It's a little old, but we're hoping to do some more episodes soon. Here's episode 2: http://home.iprimus.com.au/lees107/episode_2.mp3

Thank you very much, all!

I'll try your list in my lonely Liferea (only 3 seeds), ice60, as soon as I wake up. (I got up for some water, and cant sleep.)

liferea is really good. there's an option to put it in the panel tray, you can read blogs within it (although it is better in a browser). i find it much easier to find good blog topics to read within liferea, then open it automatically in my browser when i click on the feed's link.

here are some nice icons for it too -
http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php?content=46294

you can put them in /usr/share/liferea (i think that's the correct place for ubuntu, although i think the latest release has those icons as default)

I'll put another punt in for the linuxreality podcast (at www.linuxreality.com). Chess Griffin (yes he does have a strange name :p ) the presenter is very good at talking over the basics - I've learned a lot of linux fundamentals listening to his show.

I also find that (and this aspect of podcasts is important to me) like Leo Laporte, he has a very warm, mellow kind of voice which makes for very easy listening - unlike Steve Gibson's somewhat maniacal, panicky voice for instance (apparently he lives on 5-shot latte's  )

Yep I knew Liferea, its a great application. By the way, I wont use your list (thanks a lot, tho) because something that huge will **** me up and confuse me. BUT, can you propose me a program (if it exists) that it will automaticaly download the newest episodes of the shows I'm RSS subscribed (probably a Liferea feature ;_;), because opening 8 wgets and downloading them manually is time wasting.

Also, my list:

i really like the binrev stream, it's mostly about hacking and includes stuff like tllts, 2600, **** radio and lots of more.
the stream is on the right of the page here ->http://www.binrev.com/
here's a direct download vv

i quite like bbc radio 4 too, it covers interviews with people in the news, politics and radio documentaries

lol i just tried listening to the radio 4 stream and it's just playing a loop saying -
"due to rights restrictions we are unable to bring you this broadcast" :(

i haven't really used these, but i think rhymebox may automatically download new feeds, maybe BMPx does it too. there's bashpodder too ( the script made by one of the Linux Link Tech Show presenters; there's a GUI frontend for it i think.

there is one i have used called juice on XP a few years ago. there's a linux version now and i'm certain it will download new media as they're released.

i'd try this one first after doing a quick checkup to see people aren't having big problems with it :)

Thanks for the reply!

Lately I'm not really into podcasts because I have absolutely no time.

Some time ago, tho, I found out the Amarok's Podcast feature which is awesome, and I've been using it since I switched to KDE. It lacks some features, but it's really well integrated into Amarok, and it has the basic stuff I need, so I'm ok with it.

I enjoy Lugradio and a bunch of videos from Linux conferences. Highly interesting and I recommend you take a look at them to see what's coming down the pipe in a few months.

Eg., http://lca2007.linux.org.au/ (click on "programme" to see the videos) , debconf (http://meetings-archive.debian.net/pub/debian-meetings/) etc.

Since you didn't say it should only be about linux, I must say I enjoy Dance Department Podcast:

Which podcast software are you people using? I tried Rhythmbox, but every time I try to download a podcast it says "Failed" and nothing else. No reason why it failed.
