Is this vBulletin theme available for download? It is simply THE best out there.

I'm offering to donate $50.00 via Paypal for the release of Ubuntuforums.org vBulletin theme. Will anyone else match my donation?

I've been super busy, I will try to have something for you by friday. There is some custom code that needs to be removed and then there is the fact some of the html is just messy :)

No rush. I intend to make it worth your while, so there is justification to work on this.

Would we be allowed to use the Ubuntu Icons as you have also? Or do we have to obtain permission from Canonical Ltd?

Why would you even ask such an absurd question?

You do not bribe ryan for his theme.
I think this a highly offensive question to the community.

Ubuntu-geek has created one of the best vBulletin themes in existence, based off the Tango project concepts. He could probably charge for the distribution if he wanted.

Ubuntu-geek volunteered to release his theme previously, when he had time to do it. He did so before I even offered a donation. I simply offered him an incentive to work on it, while making a donation to the Ubuntu community forums. You call it bribery, I call it payment for services. To each his own. How much have you donated lately?

As far as the Ubuntu icons go, giving permission is ultimately up to Canonical Ltd., ostensibly Mark Shuttleworth. I respect their decision either way, as the icons are their intellectual property. If you consider my asking appropriate legal questions in these forums offensive, then I make no apologies.

How much have you donated?

None, I don't have to either. Linux is free there is nothing saying I have to donate to this site.

our theme was never released to the public there you are using it as stolen property. I should also note the images here are not available for use outside this forum. I'm exploring options right now.

Why can't the theme be open source?

There'd be more improvements and more bugs would be fixed, like the forum switching to full width.

Why can't the theme be open source? Here's a small part of why: some of the graphics were professionally made and purchased/licensed. We are not free to give those away. The person who made them worked hard and deserves to be paid.

I am so so sorry for copying those pictures.
I have immediately changed all Buttons and Ranks to something else.
I'll keep looking for any other things that I might have missed replacing.
Please let me know if I need to do something else.
I can have the colors of the theme as they are right?
If no, it'd take me sometime to change those.
Please do notify.

matthew,

As I have indicated prior, I would be willing to purchase a license for these images, and the forum layout for a reasonable fee.

Well, this thread has answered one of my queries! One of the reasons I had given up Windows was that it was unbearable for me to live in constant fear of infringing someone's copyright at every step! I thought that things will be different with Ubuntu, but now I understand that I was just being naive!!

As I understand, even here, one can be deemed a thief if he builds a theme resembling the one used here and use it in his own forums. It doesn't matter if the 'accussedl' has build his theme from scratch,or if he is guided by no commercial motives but only his love for promoting Ubuntu!! This must be what the law states , but I am not a Law specialist, so I wouldn't know!!
Its just that I feel like kicking myself hard for living in a fool's paradise where I thought that FREE is REALLY as in FREEDOM in ALL respects!! :(

I could be wrong in my assumptions, but I believe this website is privately owned, and is not part of the Ubuntu distribution. Therefore, it is not covered under the Ubuntu license.

Despite the name, and the implications of Ubuntu licensing for its software, this website's owner retains full copyright to his design, and much of its content I would assume. One has to realize this when considering copying a theme.

Also, I've learned that everything regarding law, is subject to interpretation. Just because someone claims there is a copyright violation, does not make it so. Only a judge can make that determination.

As has been discovered by thousands of Americans, law is irrelevant anymore. It's all subject to interpretation by those with the most power. As such, we are no longer a nation of laws, but a nation ruled by evil men (world bankers).

www.freedomtofascism.com. Law (unfortunately) is now meaningless to those who discover the deception.

Please remember that this theme and the artwork may be under certain licenses, copyright, trademarks etc. etc.

I know that the buttons here are not freely licensed for one.

Please check before copying/redistributing on your own site.

I love this theme (sorry if I'm bumping) but if you go to http://www.theubuntuforums.ccom/ then their taskbar at the top is the most amazing piece of coding I've ever seen.
