In this forum sub-section we coordinate testing of CD and DVD images in the days and hours before a milestone release, including alpha, beta, RC and final releases.

Every 2-3 weeks we release milestones for wider testing to get more feedback on the builds, the installers and the OS in general. For Feisty Fawn these are called Herd releases. They get a fairly broad circulation so we must ensure that they have had some minimum level of in-house testing first. Starting with the Herd 2 release we wish to encourage greater participation in the testing of images before they are posted.

Ubuntu being an open project, this 'in-house' testing is also an open process in which anyone can participate. Traditionally this has been the core devel team and a few volunteers from #ubuntu-devel. With over 20 different CD and DVD images even a minimal testing scheme becomes a major undertaking each time we release an ISO. We want to involve more people in the image testing so we can eventually get broader testing on more hardware and conduct a wider range of tests. Relieving the core dev team from the bulk of the image testing will also free them to fix bugs more quickly as they are reported at the pre-milestone stage.

This sub-forum will serve to coordinate the forum-based testing effort (while others will continue to use IRC and the wiki to report their results). Please post here if you wish to participate in the testing or coordination. If you have ever sat around twiddling your thumbs waiting for a milestone and wondering exactly when it will be released, then this is your chance to take the pulse of the release process as it happens and even help it along!

See general ISO testing information at wiki:Testing/Current (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/Current) and the Feisty cycle's release schedule (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/FeistyReleaseSchedule) (estimates). More information on testing procedures will be posted before Herd 2.

can you give a direct link to ISOs? links available don't provide such link, so now I have to look for it :)

hint: not many people will take time to search for an absent link in this day and age of lazyness :PpPp

edit: direct links to herd5:

http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/feisty/herd-5/ (Ubuntu)
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/kubuntu/releases/feisty/herd-5/ (Kubuntu)
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/edubuntu/releases/feisty/herd-5/ (Edubuntu)
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/xubuntu/releases/feisty/herd-5/ (Xubuntu)

ermmm.. herds come and go seeking for food it seems :-)

No Herd5 in http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/feisty

Seems that 0301.1 builds listed in launchpad (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-iso-tests/+bugs )are not officially Herd5 yet.
