I have no plans for either New Year's Eve or the next year. I'm boring that way. Just like in every other way.

It also happens to be the Aid alAdha or Feast of Sacrifice in Islam this year. Since I'm in a Muslim country I've been invited to a friend's house to watch them sacrifice a sheep.
Happy New Year (for everyone but the sheep)!

Lamb is good eating;)
That's interesting because it also is the עשרה בטבת, Asarah b'Tevet or Tenth of Tevet (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tenth_of_Tevet) (Tenth of Teves). (http://www.chabad.org/library/article.asp?AID=149840%28)
which is one also known as the Fast Of Tevet. (http://www.ou.org/chagim/roshchodesh/tevet/fast.htm)
(The Fast of Tevet, Tevet (http://www.jewfaq.org/defs/tevet.htm) 10, is the beginning of the siege of Jerusalem. It has also been proclaimed a memorial day for the six million Jews who died in the Holocaust.)

I love lamb! That part will be enjoyable for sure.
From Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islamic_holidays#Eid_Al-Adha):
Eid al-Adha (عيد الأضحى), also called the big holiday, falls approximately 70 days after Eid ul-Fitr (the end of Ramadan) and is celebrated in honor of the prophet Abraham (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abraham) when he intended to sacrifice his son as a proof of his loyalty to God
Since Muslims generally disagree with us Christians and Jews as to which son is being spoken of I'll just leave it at that and we can move on peacefully. :)
This holiday is also the big finish to the Muslim pilgrimage to Mecca, the Hajj, which is happening at this very moment.

lamb is an excellent condiment for mint jelly.First we ate the liver in kabobs, skewered between chunks of fat and dipped in a spicy mixture that tasted almost like Cajun seasoning. Then we had skewers of broiled meat chunks. To top it off we had a Tajine (Moroccan stew) made with a leg of lamb and prunes in a mildly sweet cinnamon sauce that we sopped up with homemade bread that was baked in a low, flat loaves so there was no soggy middle to waste.
I may not have to eat tomorrow at all.
If you ask nicely I might be convinced share a photo of my son and I standing next to the hanging carcass. :)

Still got three hours to go here in Catalunya, we will be eating and drinking all night. The tradition here is to eat 12 grapes with every "bong" of the big clock, for good luck everybody has to wear red underware and we celebrate the new year with "cava" (catalan champagne).
So happy new year to everybody.
