We are happy today to announce the release of Beryl 0.1.4! This release signifies the fifth major developer release of Beryl and the beginning of Beryl's freeze for our current stable target 0.2.0. The plugins you see in this are the plugins you will be playing with on 0.2.0, though some of them are bound to change and improve. Release notes are again not done (DBO is on an unscheduled vacation) but he'll be getting those out shortly. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you all, from everyone here at The Beryl Project.

EDIT: libemeraldengine0 shows 0.1.3, as well.

Just upgraded, all works like a charm.
My only problem is that the splash screen doesn't appear when I start beryl.

Here's the output:

beryl: Failed to load slide: /usr/share/beryl/cubecaps.png
Reloading all options.

Yeah sorry about that 0.1.3/4 problem earlier....

Lupine acciadently forgot to update the changelog of emerald and so it compiled without updating the version number.

This means that some of you might have a 0.1.3 which is actually a 0.1.4

Everything is fixed now so please just update/upgrade again :)

They should be enabled by default. >_>

lupine_nickt

a simple façade: indeed; and as far as I'm aware, they are enabled by default.

So it's all a bit weird

Regarding emerald... yeah, bit of a boo-boo there - I missed changing exactly !1! character. D'oh.

The beryl-mesa package is only for Xgl - if you're running Xgl, then beryl needs a special version of mesa statically linking into it (needless to say, this is a Bad Thing in general). It doesn't come as a separate package - although it probably should - it's integrated into beryl-core atm (the beryl-xgl binary is where all the source gets compiled into). I'll be looking at a more sane system for 0.1.5 or 0.2.0 (probably a beryl-core-xgl package, or something)

...Nick

does anyone else have this problem with the water drops plugin. It worked fine in 0.1.2 but when i upgraded it started to lag a lot and when i would rotate the cube it would turn my background white. The problem is still there but it worked fine in 0.1.2. Does anyone else notice that. I have an nvidia 256mb card so i should be fine to run the plugins fine. weird i guess.

My splash screen doesn't work either and Aquamarine is completely broken. Crashes on startup. I'll have to stick with Emerald for now.

I personally don't like it, because I have to search for a certain plugin. I'm sure I'll get used to it in time.

Annoying people... you guys have hit me hard today :)

I don't know how long you took, but it was less than 17 hours to d/l 80Gb and get me taken offline until 12 UTC :P

Don't worry though, the other mirror is chugging along fine and as long as you're using the ubuntu.beryl-project.org repository, we'll make sure we can provide you with your beryl fix for the month.

I don't see an amd64 version of beryl-plugins for 0.1.4, is this an oversight?

Thanks for all the work put into Beryl, it is really coming along, I appreciate it :D.

I also got no cubecaps or skydome and had to enable png/svn for it to work again.

Another thing I just found is that I can't <ctrl><alt><f1> and <ctrl><alt><f7>, it switches to console OK, but refuses to switch back to X, just get a blinking cursor.

I'm using the default ATI opensource driver under Edgy on a 9200se.

It always worked before.

Regards, Kev :)

unredirect_fullscreen_windows is now working again.

This means you can enable this option, and full screen apps will run as though there was no compositing.

I have an IBM Thinkpad with the i855 GM graphics chipset, and ever since upgrading to 0.1.4 Beryl doesn't work anymore. It won't load when I use the Beryl session, and if I open it manually once in KDE, the bar with the close, minimize and maximize buttons doesn't show up and some of the effects don't work. Is there any way to downgrade?

Thanks,

You will use AIGLX and the "radeon" drivers.

Do you use Dapper or Edgy?

Edgy. I really have to switch to radeon driver? I just got fglrx working recently... might hold off on beryl for a while if I must switch.

If you are using the fglrx drivers you would use XGL. That's what I do and it works fine. ]

Ok, so I'll be a pest. When will this package "automagically" work? The rest of the beryl 0.1.4 packages are there for amd64, but this one is not. It can't be a nightly build thing since it's been more than one night.Beryl 0.1.4 for the amd64 arch is broken without this.

Just a note for anyone else encountering this problem. I updated from Beryl 0.1.3 to 0.1.4 and all worked fine, but my cubecaps were gone. I tried to reselect them but they would not appear. Then I found that 0.1.4 has a new settings menu item entitled "image format". You need to select your image format, in my case png in order to reacquire cubecaps.

About the adm64 feisty problem with -plugins....

Our packager is currently busy. The source is online however so you may
apt-get -b sourceto get the source and build if you know what you're doing :)

If you want, you could send us the finished packages and we'll host them if they're decent :)
