Video Impression free clone for Windows?

Hi people!

A friend of mine was just telling me she wanted to download illegally Video Impression, so I started my point about how damaging is such a practice, and I wanted to suggest her a good free software of that sort. I've googled a bit, but I'm not very good at video editing, I mean, I don't do that, so I don't know how to judge what I find. So I'm asking the community if they have any good suggestion (for Windows). I hope finding good free software for Windows will make her appreciate the goodness of free software... and maybe switch to Linux sometimes soon :)
