Hey Im thinking about making an entire session dedicated for games. In it I only want menu entries and links/icons/etc to games or applications related to games. In general Im not a hardcore gamer but the idea of making a game-dedicated session really got me working.

Now the main step is deciding on the best WM for the job. What do you think would suit this job best? The WM needs to be at least light weight with promising performance.

Icewm would probably do this very well.

if your gaming you most likely have a beast of a machine so I don't think it matters. I really like icewm so give it a shoot.

I play alot of games just using gnome, no slow down if you do want an improvement i'd suggest getting an nvidia card as ati do suck on linux.
I can't see a WM or DE affecting your gaming too much.

If you really think it will affect it, try Blackbox (http://blackboxwm.sourceforge.net/) or even twm. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twm)

I've tried gnome, kde, xfce, openbox, enlightenment, enlightenment E17, icewm, pekwm and fluxbox.

I prefer fluxbox for gaming because of it's speed.

openbox holds the key to world domination.

Just make a ratpoison session with an instance of xterm open by default. Who needs icons?

Or, you could make it open an instance of something like thunar in a folder with links to your games.
