Ben Folds-- Songs for Silverman. Great, great album.Nice, just finished listening to the clips at the band's website. Definitely checking this one out. Excellent.

Just finished listening to Alison Krauss & Union Station - Live.

If you'd told me a year ago I'd like anything Bluegrass (well, NewGrass) I'd have told you you were nuts. But Alison sings like an angel and her and band are stunning, stunning musicians. Jazz musician friend of mine introduced me to her music and now I'm hooked.

Wait, are you pirating Gospel music? That seems ironic. ;)

Bored-- Ben Folds is one of the best musicians ever. You might remember Ben Folds Five from a few years ago (there were only 3 of them, 5 just sounded better) but the band broke up and Ben is doing his own thing. It doesn't have the punch that "Army" or "Song for the Dumped" but it's much BETTER music.

Ben is also the brains behind the music for Shatner's newest album and some of the music on Weird Al Yankovic's newest album.

Well, the best album he had with the band (I have them all) was Whatever and Ever and Amen. I've listened to that CD like 200 times. The band had three other albums.

Then he has two by himself- Rocking the Suburbs and Songs for Silverman.

Off of these I really like the Ascent of Stan (textboot hippy man) and Jesusland.

He also put out some redo's of some of his earlier tracks recently. Very nice, was a good snack before the meal of the new album came through.

Trent and Ben are my favorite of all time....

actually, i really don't listen to music.

i read in Time magazine (like, 5 years ago), that some people can't hear rythyms or melodies in music. i am half way inbetween that and normal-

Wow. It's cool cause you don't miss it, but It would be totally uncool for me to not be able to listen to any type of music. I did not know there were people like this..

Yes! Another Ben convert!

You should try out Rockin' The Suburbs next, then go back and get the Ben Folds Five albums. They're all a lot more rock than Songs For Silverman.

If you really want to get interesting, get Fear Of Pop Vol. 1. It was a Ben Folds side project with a lot of techno backbeats, etc. Some really good stuff (including a song with Shatner ;)) but very different.

It's better than a philosophy class at 8am. Had to do that freshman year of college. I was commuting at the time, so I was waking up at 6:30 or so, driving to school, and basically sleeping through that first class. Good thing I loved reading the text. Once I actually managed to take decent notes while I was at least mentally asleep. I "woke up" and I was writing what the professor was saying at the time. I had a full page of notes and had no clue how they got there!

The Clash is one of my favourite traffic-killers to get me thru the home-work-home traffic mess - when I feel like screaming at some ******* who's just cut me up its Know Your rights - "You have the right to free speech - as long as you're not dumb enough to actually try it".....when the road finally clears its "Rock the Casbah" all the way home.....Nice one!

I actually haven't. I know she won a Palm d'Or for her role, but I haven't. She scares me enough as a singer, I'm not sure I'd like to see her acting :-| ..

I promise, she doesn't ;) You know, movies don't change depending on the actors moods at the moment. Once they hit the film, there's no changing it. ;) ;)

OK Listen. Before I post this I want you to know that I hate hate hate all Dave Matthews Band music that has been released on the radio/mtv. It got so overplayed, I just wanted to throw away any device that might bring the music into my home.

But this is freakin' amazing. Dave Matthews Band's new album, Stand Up. I love it.

EDIT: is it just me or are more bands/artists coming out with really fantastic and mature music recently, if maybe a little less high-energy? Green Day's new album made it into my top 5 of all time after hearing the first 4 songs. Ben Folds comes out with this mind blowing album. Weezer is back and better than they ever were, though they won't get the radio play because they aren't doing typical weezer grunge stuff. NIN has a new album out that really pushes the envelope of the previous albums. And now DMB. It's amazing, and I seriously hope music is on an upward trend again.

**sorry for extending your question a lil bizzle*

I live in the Dominican Republic. It's very easy to keep up with the "gringo" music scene and everything else in general. Most of the people [about 80%] barely know english and listen just to their crappy -20 times more obnoxious than folk music- "bachata" music. But teens like me going from medium-high economic class and above get very influenced by american music. We listen to all the music you guys listen. Now.. ignorant fashion bubble head chumps just like whatever's mainstream, but some of us are really into good music. We don't care if its mainstream or not, we just dig good music. Here we have two types of american music listeners: " ignorant weak pathetic fools " that just follow the trend, and people that like what they hear [old school gansta rap like nwa; at-the-drive-in, tool, nin, etc. A lot of us have the 'this country sucks big time' culture so we tend to follow another country's "life" ;). There's no country music lovers here though [thank God]. Some even watch the superbowl like they're native from us or something, but that's just playing stupid (main sport is baseball). Our television is filled with about 90% of U.S.A. channels, maybe 7% dominican channels, and 3% foreign like french or german.

And btw, dominican republic and the caribbean is in America, so that makes us americans too ;). YOu would mean north-americans :-P.

"O'reilly books : Dominican Republic in a nutshell"= bananas + beaches . yes you could this donkey kong's lair..

British music ? we don't get that hear unless it gets mainstream attention in the US ;) lol

Actually I meant United States. I hate the habit that we've all gotten into of calling the United States of America just plain "America." "America" is two whole continents, not just one country. So yes, I fall into the trap as well. But I still hate it ;)

That drives makes some Geography teachers crazy here. With the AFS transfer plan we get a lot of students from the U.S. here, and teachers just go berserk hearing them: -So we're you from? "America" -No sh*t, WHERE.

BTW, in a year or so, you guys are going to get a massive flood of the puerto-rican "porn music" called reggaeton. I know it already has a lot of buzz [I visit the US every year.. I'm thinking bout going to europe this year so might skip this year :)], but diddy just made "bad boy latino", and a lot of artists are getting into it. I hate that damn music oh my.. it is not even music, it's a ultra loud "bump bump noise"

This month we had an event concerning El Chavo at a local University's auditorium. I went there and I was shocked because they managed to fill the place with 700 people (it was never so crowded at the classes when I studied there, heheh) and raise around 800 kg of food to be donated to the University's Hospital. That was great!

Blind Guardian - Born in a Mourning hall

In fact it was close to a real fallout
everything's under control
the speaker said with a serious smile
behind his mask
he knew the truth
I'll bring a new age of better ways
the TV preacher said
just pay today
pay today

World's dressed in black
on earth's judgement day
and I?
I know it can't go on
forbidden signs increase
I'm sitting still at home
and watching

Ref.:
Born in a mourning hall
pale clouds feared the unborn child
then it grew up with growing plans
of suicide
born in a mourning hall
shadows left the fear inside
that Peter Pan will never reach
the other side

BLACK SABBATH - DIE YOUNG

In my opinion, one of the best songs "old" Heavy Metal has to offer...

Again, IMHO, music is growing stale....Ok, you hear catchy tunes, but there is no real variety...Only a couple of bands trying to do something different.Musically, only downtuned guitars are really used (Guitars with a heavy sound), and people don't pay attention to things like time changes (The change of tempo and general tune in a song).Lyrics are very shallow, dealing with topics like Women, Sex, Love, Alchohol and pseudo-rebel-ism.IMO, the best of times for Rock and (the then-emerging) Heavy Metal were the 60s - late 80s/early 90s.Since then, not many are holding the flag for originality and creationism.IMHO, that is. :|

She's very nice :-). Since I'm just a kid, lately I've been trying to get all the music/artists that I know they're good that I probably just Ignored (that Jagged Little Pill disc came out on June 13, 1995.. I was about 10 and I still remember singing Hand In My Pocket like a madboy). So after a bit of research, Alanis, Tori, Norah and Alicia stood out.;). If you wanna help in the "bored2k's culturization campaign", start naming albums.

Wow I never thought of Nirvana.. because that's because I think that's the most underrated band in the history of the celluloid . Ok acquiring it.. maybe I'll think otherwise years after ;).

Lacy J. Dalton, "Crazy Blue Eyes"

Yeah, I know....most of you have never heard of her. Moderately successful country singer in the late 70s, early 80s.

It wasn't about the music, it was about the passion :) Just remember that when you're listening.

I've met and spoken to Krist (the bassist). Cool guy :)

Pearl Jam was amazing. Ironic that they came out in the grunge revolution brought into the foreground by Nirvana-- but these bands, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, heck even Green Day can be thrown into it. But they all sounded so DIFFERENT.

Today, a band starts a trend and instantly there are all these cookie cutter replicas, when just over 10 years ago, there was real, raw, and original music.

Ok Green Day is probably the rock band I respect/like/heard the most. They might not be the best, but I have listened to their albums like no other. I still remember when I first saw the video for Basket Case I was about 7. I was completely shocked because I had really never liked any music before that. I liked them so much I remember listening to the tapes and hand-copying the lyrics (I had no idea they were available..heck, I think I didnt even have a computer).

From the bands you mentioned, I just know/like the ones that got uber popular (Black Hole Sun, Jeremy.. my bro loved Nirvana so I know a few).

What's a good Pearl Jam album ?

haggard - All inizio e la morte

All'inizio E La Morte

[To The Beginning And The Dead]

[Music: A. Nasseri / Lyrics: A. Nasseri]

Tremens factus sum ego [I shake because of the facts]
Et timeo [and I'm scared]
Dum discussio [while I talk]
Venerit at que ventura ira [it will come to the upcomig wrath]
Et timeo [and I'm scared]
Dum discussio [while I talk]
Venerit at que ventura ira [it will come to the upcoming wrath]

Herbei, ihr Leut' - das Fest beginnt [come run up you people, the celebration starts]
Nehmt Platz auf besten Rängen [take your seats on best places]
Seht, wie der flehend Mann dort kniet [see how the begging man kneels there]
Seht den Ketzer, ich sag, er soll brennen heut' Nacht [see the heretic, tonight he shall burn I say]
Soll ihn spür'n, den Tod, er kommt langsam und lacht [(he) should feel death, it comes slowly and laughs]
Und als die Töchter des Teufels er nennt [and as he tells about Devil's daughters]
Die Sense den Faden des Lebens zertrennt [the scythe severes the thread of life]

Und als sein letzter Schrei erstirbt [and when his final scream dies]
Die Flammen ihn verschlingen [flames consume him]
Und Kindesweinen bricht die Still.... [children's crying breaks the silence...]
Seht zur Asche ward er, der die Lügen erzählt [see to ashes he went who told those lies]
Im Zeichen des Kreuzes [under the sign of the cross]
Hat er seinen Tod selbst gewählt [he chose his death himself]
Doch unsere Seelen sind rein... [but our souls are pure...]

Doch unsere Seelen sind rein... [but our souls are pure...]

Schenkt aus den Wein! [pour out the wine]

Profundis Clamavi [endlessly we cry out]
And as the dark procession then has been fulfilled
For their god - a sacrifice - his blood was spilled
So Death took him to mother's chest
Where he may rest...

And the weather says, it's springtime
See the leafs of darkest green
And his screams hall in the nightly breeze
As the darkened sorrows feels

Dark are all the autumn nights
Where mind and stars unite
Knowing forbidden wisdom
And all the things he sees
Collected in a chamber
Secrets of astronomy

The rage in their eyes
Torches in their hands
And the power of the cross
Bringing fear to all the land
... and darkness will come to us all!

Profundis Clamavi! [endlessly we cry out]

And as the dark procession...

Schenkt aus den Wein! [pour out the wine]
