It's true. But decent game is much more important which it seems to lack.

and microsoft also loses like a butt load of money with each console they sell. I heard that they are only just NOW getting profit from the original xbox. Same thing with sony now too...

The PS3 has one 3.2 GHz processor with 7 "SPE" processors which are not nearly as powerful as a single generic processor like the one the 360 has. On the other hand, 7 mini-cores running at 3.2 GHz with (insert acronyms here) are still pretty dang fast.

It's a pretty accurate article comparing the specs of the x360 and the ps3(I do think it is wrong in saying the the ps3 gpu is a modified nvidia 7600, as I think it is a 7800gtx); pretty good read if you like this stuff, as it is impartial and strips away the bull in what microsoft and sony want you to believe.

Basic Xbox 360 specs:
--3x3.2 Ghz PowerPC (read into it, its not as impressive as it seems[same goes for ps3])
--500 Mhz ATI GPU w/ 48 unified pixel pipeline using the DirectX "9.5" API. Has 10 meg of RAM, but shares with the system ram ... From what I understand, this GPU is quite a beast
--512 Meg of system RAM (I think its DDR2, but I'm not sure). Can be allocated dynamically to either the system or the GPU

Correct me if I am wrong with anything I said, as This is all from memory and should be taken with a grain of salt.

Thats correct as far as the units go, since the 360 was about 700 some bucks to make per unit and it was retailed at about $300-$400 (as we know). However most of the profit MS and Sony get from these systems are through the games, which make up for the lost profit in the systems themselves. So with that said, they still rack in a lot of money :D

Microsoft no longer loses any money on the 360 consoles they sell. In fact, they make a small profit now.

IBM probably lowered the price dramatically to get the Microsoft and Sony contracts, because otherwise nobody wants to include a PowerPC chip. Yeah, I know PPC is a great architecture, but unfortunately it's true.

well if MS went with the original plan the 360 would have been a 4x3.2ghz system but they cut down to a tri-core to lower expenses. They also lost the contract with the Nvidia RSX, which was made for the 360, due to an argument on prices (or so I heard). Now the PS3 has the chip ;) .

But in the end, as far as I think, it went really smooth :D
