Hey people, I just found this very interesting article: http://www.hanselman.com/blog/HowToTransfermoveAllYourEmailFromHotmailOrYahooToG mail.aspx

Since I'm using evolution, and I'm very dissatisfied (corrupted my calendar once, and now it's messing up my emails?), I wish to fully use gmail from now on, but I have a few important messages I should have backuped to gmail.

The problem is that this article was made for windows users. Can anyone figure a way for Linuxers? ;)

Have anyone tried the Gmail loader? http://www.marklyon.org/gmail/

I used it, it worked great for me. Only problem was that all my mails were imported in reverse order, so now the oldest is first instead of the newest. (went from yahoo to gmail)

Could you outline the steps you took to move mail from Yahoo to Gmail? I'd like to do that. Thanks-

Hmm, I forgot this post ~ meanwhile I had tried GML (gmail loader), but spent 3-4 hours, ended up frustrated (it just didn't work with aliases at all) and selected ~10 mails to be forwarded manually.

That was a long long time ago  But here is what I remember from it:

1. Install YPOPs! from http://yahoopops.sourceforge.net/
2. Load your mail with thunderbird
3. Use GML to upload your mail to gmail http://www.marklyon.org/gmail/default.htm (instructions (http://www.marklyon.org/gmail/instruction.htm))
4. Import your contacts in gmail (instructions (http://gmail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=8301&topic=42) )

Probably easier to do on Windows, because you don't have to compile ypops.
Doing it this way I ended up with all the emails in the reverse order than they were reveived, so you may want to find a way to upload them in the right order.

(just noticed that my yahoo mail account which I still have has been upgraded to 1gb! :-P )

There's an easier way to get the functionality of ypops in Thunderbird - it's an addon called webmail - http://webmail.mozdev.org/
I actually find it easier to use (and it grabs literally hundreds of e-mails at a time without problems)
