um... just means trv is just true, but just an annoying way I say it.... and this is what KVLT (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=kvlt&r=f) is.

and yes being a metal head would help in know what that means.

Ah, thanks for the link. I just didn't know what it meant. I may be old. 41, in fact, but I grew up with the Sex Pistols and the Damned and even further back Alice Cooper, KISS and so forth. I have the lived the life of an 'outcast' for liking many of the things I liked and thinking many of things I espoused. Now, since I am old, after typing all of that, I just plain forgot where I was going with this whole post. Man!, what they say about the mind going is really true! :-)

Okay, I clicked the link to refresh my memory. I'd say the Ubuntu SE is trv KVLT.

Also, I really miss vinyl albums for real, not just as a retro thing.

yes SE is prolly the greatest thing to happen to a linux distro......I still say they should put a pentagram with the goats head in the circle like this....

That is the beauty of vinyl. When I put on a 1965 Kink's album, I want to feel like I'm back in 1965! I love the pop-crackle-and-hiss!

There are some great ones on Deviant Art, but I've been careful not to nick any copyrighted work...

I wouldn't say "TRV KVLT" about anything. Whatever those letters mean. I'm a metalhead, but not native english-speaker and I sure don't care much about acronyms like that..

Anyway, I prefer trash, death and black metal. Pretty much anything goes but I'm not a big fan of numetal.

Finntroll, Anthrax, Slayer, Pantera, Amorphis and Sentenced would probably be my favourites.. Of course some old Megadeth and Black Sabbath too.

Sorry for all you people but best metal comes from Finland and Norway!

ok. I checked the Urban Dictionary and understood that would mean 'true cult'? Saying it like 'trv kvlt' ispossibly the most stupid thing I've ever seen :D

lol TRV KVLT is in the eye of the beholder, some black metal kids call bands who claim they want their sound to be grim and frostbitten so they record their music on mono on a tape deck in a metal garbage can to hide the fact that they cannot play their instruments......... I say any metal band thats good is kvlt to me, and yes kvlt is silly to me hence why I used it in teh thread. lol

On the subject of metal and Ubuntu, I have to say that my guitar is the only reason I still (occasionally) run Windows. I have a Line 6 Pod XT and it only works with Windows.

It would be great to hook up my matte black Gibson Explorer to Ubuntu Satanic Edition and let rip!

I wasn't exactly calling the poster of this thread stupid , or even targeting any person, so I figured it would be ok. . But if anybody has any issues with that I'm happy to edit the post. :)

It's just that I'm not a native english speaker and that was the only way I could think of to express my opinion about this thing we are voting about. There isn't suitable option in the poll.

No, you are not. Black Metal, Death Metal, Blackened Death Metal, GoreGrind, GrindCore, SludgeCore, Viking Metal... I live for that stuff.

I highly doubt Burzum (aka Varg Vikernes) would be down with SE. In prison, he's changed his tune considerably, going from a Nationalist-almost Fascist persona to what he now calls Odinist and now completely disavows his former church-burning, bandmate-stabbing, Satanist past. He has said in interviews that upon release (whenever that may be, since he got busted in 2003 after escaping prison with a bunch or assault rifles, going to do who-knows-what) he will record two more albums that in style will be similar to his earlier records, but that Black Metal doesn't much interest him. Still, love the dude. Burzum rocks.

My high point this year is definitely going to be getting to see Immortal, reunited and playing B.B. King's, here in NYC.

I'd disagree that Black Metal bands are "all about Satan". Yes, Satanic themes, imagery and whatnot are prevalent, but much of it if also fixated on the occult, death, historical tragedy like the Black Plague and other dark elements. Take Immortal for example, who sets their music in some fantasy world called "Blashyrkh", ruled by the "God of Mighty Ravendark". Or take Carpathian Forest, which while many songs are Satanic, also adds references to basic nihilism, suicide, drugs and perversion. But yes, Satan kind of rules the roost in that genre-as it should.

Whoa, that gave me pause...had to check it out (http://www.burzum.org).

I had it wrong, his term is Odalist (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Odalism), which I take from his writing to be a modern interpretation of Nordic Paganism and it seems he's still professing it, as well as a general hatred for modern civilization and Judeo-Christianity in general.

I listen to a lot of varieties of metal, but I am pickiest about Black and Death. If you aren't enunciating, I won't listen. I also can't stand the horrible recording quality, as mentioned above, where it's recorded on Mom's 20 year old dictaphone. That doesn't make it sound "cold", it makes it sound unintelligible.

I like stuff like Amon Amarth, Opeth, Dark Tranquillity, Bathory, CoB, Arch Enemy, Dimmu Borgir, all of which are "disputable" as to what genres they are, at least from the arguments I've read online (save for perhaps, Bathory), but I also have no worries about whether someone finds me tr00 or kvlt. I'm too old for that ;P I just listen to what I like. I also dig things like Korpiklaani, Ensiferum, Finntroll, etc. where the vocals are harsh, but the music is folk-based.

Anyway, I get a kick out of the SE thing, and have thought about installing it for a laugh.

Someone earlier in the thread was mentioning that they didn't care for some of Black Metal's lo-fi sound... I can understand that. I've just grown to appreciate it. Some bands like DarkThrone are intentionally lo-fi. Others, especially early Black Metal bands were a bunch of kids, scraping together the equipment they could afford or borrow, much like the old DIY American hardcore punk bands I liked as a kid (can anyone say Black Flag?). It's the good Black Metal that transcends it's technical limits to sound good. In some cases, like Burzum, if it wasn't lo-fi, it wouldn't be right.

Here's a funny quote by Varg Vikernes of Burzum:

When it came to guitar amplifiers all the Death Metal guys told me that the way to get the "right" (trendy) sound was to use Marshall amps, and since I didn't like that sound I bought a Pivee (Pivey?) amp and used that instead. On "Filosofem" I didn't use a guitar amplifier at all, but instead used only the amplifier on my brother's stereo (that of course was not intended for that use) and some old fuzz pedals.

For "singing" I used whatever microphone the sound technician handed me, or - when I recorded "Filosofem" - I asked for the worst microphone he had, and ended up using the microphone in a headset.

Filosofem is my favorite Burzum album. \m/

Funny thing about Amon Amarth... I had a couple beers with their bassist and apparently they all have day jobs. When they tour, they have to take time off.

I really like Kataklysm, especially their last album. Not so hot on their vocals though.

yeah there are a few bands that have to do that I know in punk, propagandi all have jobs as well. but yeah I imagine playing in a viking metal band can not be all that prosperous.

Umm about the lo-fi I hate when bands do it intentionally for the cold and frosbitten sound, I dont mind say listening to emperors in the wrath of the tryrant album, because that is a demo and ofcourse done with what they had as kids/teens.

Also have you guys seen the ruthless reviews worst black metal pics...

The poor guy’s **** n’ balls ripped through his pants, yet in the true spirit of evil, he just kept on rockin’. And why shouldn’t he? Forget the spikes and chains because your **** is as metal as it gets.
