It's truly amazing that there is not one media player for linux based system that works like it should for windows formats like wmv,asf etc (streaming video).

Sure mplayer is ok. but... on a lot of sites the stream is choppy.
Then you have xine works better mostly, but... on a lot of sites it's not recognized as any suitable plugin for ms format..

VLC ehh ok no good for streaming video/sound.

can you point us to some of your web sites I think you may have found a bug or something. I had mplayer streaming video off Apple so it shouldn't be a problem.

You do know all the formats you want to play are formats that we have to hack together support for right?

I use MPlayer for most embedded videos and KPlayer for non-embedded. I don't have a problem.

The reason why Xine is not recognised on many sites is because those sites have Javascript which searches for the exact details of the Windows Media Player plugin for Windows, and then give an error message when the script can't find it.

WMV and ASF work fine on my computer. Maybe you're just used to how much better Linux's multi-tasking support is, and you're running lots of other programs at the same time on Linux where you wouldn't on Windows?

Ok on this site I always get choppy playback if using Mplayer. (There are more sites, dont have them now) Dont get that if using xine or windows.

http://www.cnn.com there it most of the time don't even play if using xine.

On this site I have problems using xine http://www.svd.se/apps/webbtv

the list goes on

The mplayer is recognized on most sites, but a have the choppy playback on a lot.
Xine dont have the choppy stuff, but as I said it don't work on a lot of them.

Yes you said that it's the javascript issue. Then xine should fix the id since mplayer work on those sites

Yes I know that. Still maybe the different project should have a look at each other. Since xine works on some and mplayer others and kind of add stuff together.
