What in your opinion is the best vector drawing program for linux? I have inkscape, but I find it kind of limiting, I'd like something similar to what adobe offers for windows if possible...

Check out Xara Xtreme (http://www.xaraxtreme.org/).

I believe Xara Xtreme is what Linux has most similar to Adobe's Illustrator.

EDIT: Oops, beat by 23meg.

Yeah, I would say Inkscape is more polished overall but Xara has some nice features that Inkscape lacks right now.

Last time I tried Xara only supported it's own binary files and exporting to .jpg.. So no transparency with Xara. I would like at least support for .png if .svg is impossible.

I quite like Inkscape, it's not really that limited, but it laks all tools that make things easy on Illustrator.

Sodipodi is worth a try too.

The latest Xara supports PNG and SVG (via plugin) import, as well as PNG and SVG export.
