I was just wondering what our members' various system setups are.

For me, I have my desktop setup using Kubuntu Edgy. I also have a laptop that runs Ubuntu Edgy, though the laptop is currently FUBAR. :/

My computers specs are in my signature, my laptop uses ubuntu dapper, and my desktop uses ubuntu edgy (but i'm thinking of installing dapper instead, because it has some annoying bugs)

Main box is AMD 2500 with Edgy. Backup is AMD 2000 also with Edgy. Notebook # 1 Toshiba Tecra (Wifes computer) dual boots XP and Dapper. That is some flavor of a P3 I think at 1.3 gHz. Notebook # 2 (just sits) is an old Compaq AMD K6 at 350 mHz. It has Ubuntu Lite Dapper and Xbuntu on it.

Laptop is Compaq 1600mhz running Edgy (Ubuntu), Dualboot but never starting XP anymore.

Kid's computer is Dell, Celeron 400Mhz, running Dapper (Ubuntu).

Havn't made the main computer (generic 1200Mhz) Dualboot yet. But the wife is using the kid's computer. (She likes the games.)

That_Geek: Reburn your alternate install disc at a slow rate and do the server install, then sudo apt-get install xubuntu-desktop.

I recently gave Xubuntu a second shot, using this install method, on the following setup:

Celeron 566 mHz
160 MB ram
7 gig HD

..things so old it has USB 1.1's. And let me tell ya, doing the alternate install and then installing the desktop environment made a world of difference. The thing doesn't fly by any means, but it's very usable and is a whole whack of fun. I haven't touched my Beryl laptop in like 3 days!

Give it a shot, let us know how it goes.

Dell Latitude D810, I know it's a laptop but it feels like a server.
It's pretty sweet except that some brilliant engineer decided that they wouldn't include wireless. What a wanker.

Dell Dimension 8400, 3.2ghz proc/hyperthreaded, 2 gigs of ram, 3 / 80 gig hard drives, DVD-ROM, DVD-RW.
Dual boot, Kubuntu Edgy, Windows XP SP2.
Vista was blown away shortly after this original post.

Have been using (K)Ubuntu since December 2005, and rarely boot into XP.

Girlfriend's machine is using (K)Ubuntu 6.06.1 LTS only.
She's getting the hang of using it, which is a good thing.
Now to get the kids' laptops converted over. :)

Ubuntu Edgy with Enlightenment Dr16 would work pretty well, too.

My systems:

Dell Optiplex GX110 - P-III/733Mhz, 256MB PC-133 RAM, 40GB EIDE /dev/hda... it's your basic pizza box machine, all onboard, crappy i810 video card. NIC's pretty nice though, it's a 3Com 905B. I love those cards. This machine is running Ubuntu Edgy with lots of tweaks.

My wife's machine - AMD 1600+ CPU, 1GB DDR3200 RAM, 40GB /dev/hda 160GB /dev/hdb, Liteon CDR/DVD-+R /hdc, nVidia FX5500 video, onboard everything else. Ubuntu Edgy with modest tweaks and pretty much everything from Automatix on it. This machine is running Beryl, AIGLX, yadda yadda... looks incredible. I wish I had movies to show you.

The kid's machine - Duron 850Mhz CPU, Wireless through NDISwrapper, 512MB PC-133 RAM, 40Gb /dev/hda, nVidia Geforce 4 FX, onboard everything else. Dual boots XP and Kubuntu 5.10. Yeah, this is my achillies heel machine, the one I can't make pure Ubuntu because the kids don't know how to use Linux yet. Or so my wife's arguement goes. Personally I think if we switched it over to pure U/K/Xubuntu and gave the kids a week they would have no problems. It's not like they're writing device drivers on it or anything. All they do is surf the net.

My Toy Machine - Sun Sparc20, 512MB RAM, 8GB SCSI2 drive, framebuffer (I can't seem to get anything but framebuffer to work), your basic Sparc pizzabox. I've been playing with Ubuntu on this since 5.04. It's still running warty.

(ex) server - HP Netserver 4. Dual Pentium Pro 200Mhz CPUs, 128MB RAM, no X, no WM, no nothing but SSH, FTP, HTTPD, and Mail. 6 9GB SCSI drives in RAID 5 through a Mylex netRAID adapter. This machine rocks for file access. And I even figured out how to make the netRAID adapter bootable!

I've got 3 systems running Linux:

Desktop:
Athlon 64 X2 4200+
2GB 667Mhz DDR2
2x GeForce 7600GS Silent graphics cards (SLI of course)
2x 80GB Western Digital SATA (in RAID-0)
12x DVD burner
52x CD Burner
Also, many LEDs and a nice window too

Server:
Athlon XP 2000+
512MB DDR (forget the speed)
GeForce 4 Ti 4200 (With upgraded heatsink)
200GB Western Digital IDE
32x CD-ROM

Laptop: Tangent (lucky you if you've never heard of them)
2Ghz Pentium M processor
1GB DDR
80GB HDD
Intel 915 Graphics
Intel ProSet Wireless
