My fellow community members... once again I'll enquire what your tastes are in Ubuntu swag.

A member of the Czech Community was thinking there might be demand among Kubuntu users for mugs. You know you want your coffee...
Wouldn't it taste better in a nice, blue, Kubuntu mug?

would you do international shipping? :O

I don't drink coffee (can't stand the taste), but I would love to see an Ubuntu mug. I'm not much of a KDE fan.

Wouldn't it be relatively simple to just make a Kubuntu mug using the same method/distribution (CafePress) as the Ubuntu ones?
That said I'd take the Kubuntu one, hurrah KDE!

nice, but I think we should wait until feisty is out. Feisty = better artwork, which is what we would want on the mugs instead of the current.

Jenda

Cafepress is ridiculously expensive, and I've only heard bad things about the quality.

maniacmusician, it probably wouldn't be sooner anyway :)

You planning to market some anytime soon, Jenda?

I would like to buy one. The ones at Cafepress are a rip off

Jenda
November 29th, 2006, 03:19 PM
Depends on the outcome of this poll :)
And it won't be me who makes/sells them. I will probably be put in charge of shipping them int'ly, though.

I would buy one for sure.

If it's not too expensive, sure. Kubuntu of course ;-), with correct artwork, the one in cafepress looks like the artwork is printed wrong, the ubuntu one has been done better.

Jenda
November 29th, 2006, 07:15 PM
What's too expensive? How much would you pay for a Kubuntu mug, folks?

jleemc44
November 29th, 2006, 07:40 PM
Could it hold other beverages as well? What about soups or cereals?

chaosgeisterchen
November 29th, 2006, 09:42 PM
I would pay around 7 Euros max. It is a reasonable price I think.

Dunno... it would have to be one of those bowl-shaped ones, right? I guess this could be arranged. I'm not the one making them, though. I'll relay the feedback :)

Shipping from Prague to Kefermakt (district Freistadt) will be rather cheap, ain't I right?

Jenda
November 30th, 2006, 12:37 AM
Of course you're right - I only offer shipping cheap ;)

I have global flat rates on stickers and posters. The Posters are in a weight category that has the same prices globally, and for stickers, the difference was degligeable. I suspect it will be similar for mugs, but might be wrong. My estimate is €3 shipping.

The Czech Republic is supposed to have one of the cheapest postal services in the world.

It sounds interesting what you're talking about. Which other products are you offering besides those Kubuntu / Ubuntu mugs? I would like to have a look at the full assortement if possible.

Kubuntu mugs?
I've got only one question ... where's mine!?

Jenda
November 30th, 2006, 09:19 AM
chaosgeisterchen: I'm primarily trying to encourage other members the community to create their own material and ship out, but I offer:
stickers: http://flickr.com/photos/menza/190241486/
$3 for 10 small ones (Ubuntu, Kubuntu-5 left, Edubuntu, Xubuntu)
$2 for each logo sticker (out of teh big white ones)
shipping included

posters: http://diy.devubuntu.com/index.php?sub=posters
$1 per poster
$5 shipping
$2 optional tube, recommended for <5 posters.
(don't use the button on that site - it charges you an extra $10, a donation to the forums)

To see how the funds are used, please see http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=296758
So far, the sales have generated $81 for the forums and $200 for marketing projects.

I'm also working on t-shirts: http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=303557

I will order when brown T-Shirts are introduced, thanks for all the information, looks awesome.

On second thought, I _do_ have a question. Will they be microwave safe?

I'd say <10$ and then I AM DEFINITELY in. Uhhh can't wait.

By the way, would it be possible to create an extra kind with the Ubuntu Poster Highway on, that would be SOOO cool. In a slightly altered version off course (You don't have much use for the small white text if it's on a cup since you would need the eyesight of a hog to read it). So just remove the white text and let the Ubuntu Linux for human beings expand into the whole white shape at the bottom.

Ohh anyway I rambeling, maybe the original designer will do this if anybode else think it's a cool idea.

Jenda
November 30th, 2006, 12:42 PM
TLE, great idea :)
Maybe you can start a poll asking if people would be interested?
editing the files should be a breeze, they are all available at doc.ubuntu.com/~marketing

Maybe you can start a poll asking if people would be interested?
Yes I can but I was thinking, maybe first of all we could see if anybody else replied positively i this thread. And if so, then if there is going to be 2 or 3 kinds of mugs maybe we need a little elaborate way of determining how much interest there are in the different kinds. Maybe a total pool over all three kinds, just so we don't overrun people with polls.

I'm not sure if the plan is to make several types of mugs - since the trick is that when you make them in bulk, it's affordable.

Jenda, how about Ubuntu bumper stickers?

Something like "My computer is powered by Ubuntu"

On the mug front, I would prefer an Ubuntu rather than Kubuntu mug.

Good luck :-)

Right, but even so, maybe it would be better to wait a little while a see if anybody else shows an interest, and then do a poll to determine what kind there are most interest in.

Thanks, but since I'm not the one doing these mugs, and I don't intend to create mugs, or at least not yet, since they fulfill no real marketing purpose, I don't plan Ubuntu mugs. However, I have the impression Vaclav, the guy making these, is also making Ubuntu mugs... or, in fact, is making Ubuntu mugs, and asked me to inquire if Kubuntu mugs were also in demand.

Bumpers stickers... I'll note the demand ;)

Hi everybody! I'm the guy to fiddle with the Kubuntu mugs. For now I just look around to see how many folks would be interested & decide aftewards. If there is enough interested people I'll of course make sure that the quality is excellent (microvawe-, dishwasherproof, proper colors & correctly printed).
The same applies for Ubuntu mugs.
Since Jenda can help with the distribution & shipping the only thing is if there is enough people who want their nice (K)Ubuntu mug :)
For now I can say that the price will be <$10. I hope that's a good news for you, guys ;)

Ok, the design that I have in mind would be something like this:

Kubuntu mug one side (http://pastebin.cermak-gby.cz/kubuntu_inside.png)

Kubuntu mug other side (http://pastebin.cermak-gby.cz/kubuntu_outside.png)

Ubuntu mug one side (http://pastebin.cermak-gby.cz/mug_inside.png)

Ubuntu mug other side (http://pastebin.cermak-gby.cz/mug_outside.png)

Its just to get the idea :)
Or would you prefer the Cafepress design where the logo goes all around the mug so you can't actually see it complete?

Thanx for your opinions!

Looks great. BTW would you consider a third kind like the one i suggested in post 29. And if so should I start a poll to see if there is any interest ?

TLE: those would rock ;) I'd probably get one myself. It's up to Kingskid, though.
