addons.mozilla.org has, from what I have been seeing recently, become inundated with spyware toolbars and miscategorized spam. Look under "Web Annoyances" or "Privacy and Security" and what do you get? The same "Anonymous usage data" toolbars, over and over.

So I was wondering if there are any other good, trusted sources out there for Firefox extensions?

addons.mozilla.org is obviously the best, but for another trusted site, you can look at http://extensionroom.mozdev.org/

Try this site http://206.225.87.159/ it has a lot of add-ons for Firefox and Thunderbird. I use it instead of the official Mozilla add-on site. The name of the site is The Extension Mirror.
