As many have tried and failed and it does look like there is a nice group of people that would like to see this. I think we should try to put all of our posts on one forum and bring up a poll to really show people that there is a demand for this.

Also if anyone finds anything please post here.

its the cheapest hardware and has everything and its also planned with linux in mind. so if we dont get ubuntu into it we are all wasting a great oppurtunity. so lets get on with it

Whats the point? With such a limited supply of PS3 consoles there is an extrememly limited user base. Ubuntu for the Wii makes much more sense.

Sorry this has gone of topic a bit. I think it would be nice to see Ubuntu on a ps3 because then maybe some mainstream people would get to see Ubuntu for themselves and it would give ps3 users a lot more power.

With regard to Linux on wii, there is already a topic for that http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=262383&highlight=ubuntu+wii

I guess I'm not seeing the reason to have Ubuntu on a gaming console. The consoles lack of hardware standards, lack of upgradability and many other issues would keep me from using it for anything other than the gaming it was intended for.

With that said, I'm all about hacking, and I think it would be great to see it realized. I just don't see the need.

s/other linux distros have/yellow dog linux has/

The burden of proof isn't on me to prove why not, but the burden is placed on you to prove why. For me, it doesn't make sense.

The reason why is this: The PS3's hardware is designed to run on Linux. You can't buy a faster machine for a better price. It would be the equivalent of one of Dell's N series computers-- just hella faster.

There is more in it than just the PS3 in the next years we will see other machines rolling out with the cell.
Lack of upgrades, when did you average Joe upgrade his PC ? They buy a new one once every 5 years or so. This project isn't for the nerds upgrades tunning watercooling but for the average console users.
I wish Sony would preinstall Linux on the 60GB versions.
