Fedora, like Ubuntu, is considering dropping PPC support claiming that it is a drain on developer resources and download metrics suggest that it is unpopular.

Ubuntu is also considering dropping PPC support and a useful civilized forum thread can be read here:

My contention is that PPC support is worth the effort if you look beyond metrics alone. Download statistics tend to reflect accurate PC vs Apple stats anyway, so the alarmingly low downloads should not be a shock.

Most of us are not trying to keep obscure hardware alive forever, but merely asking for improved G5 support for a few years to help us make the transition to X86. We do not want to take away resources from X86, but merely suggest that the distro maintainers find a way to overcome staffing issues because it is simply worth it.

For me, supporting PPC, especially with improved G5 support, for a few years anyway, is a vital component for community good will.

Maybe Fedora users should look into this.

I think they should keep it alive for a few more years. With the Intel-based Macs, I think that it's the reason they want to drop it.

Debian supports it and probably won't drop it.

Yeah but Debian support MIPS and ARM(64) and all manner a obscure architectures :p
Fedora was the first big-name distro to support Intel Mac's btw, so their not really anti-Mac or anything.
