They can't be that leet. Is it really hard to type normally and then use GPG? If the parent has a nanny program to spy... well that's what live CDs and USB keys are for ;)

media!, got to keep spinning the computer and the internet as a bad thing... must keep the public afraid...

i literally lose it everytime i see another one of these "new" articles... i think l33t has been around since the internet explosion with 14.4 modems... like 20 years ago.

"And this is different from our parents generation speaking in pig latin how?"

Is it sad that I could read that? Or is it worse that you spent time typing that out?

1337 was the language the hackers used before a bunch of retarted 13 year olds started using it all over the place and then everyone else figured it out...or at least that is what I was told back in the mid 90's LOL

Be involved with them. You can only point them in the right direction. The media really overhypes this and prays on a mothers fears. They should just point concerned parents to a community center class on l337 5p34k imo. We had some here in our town and turnout was pretty good. A 15/16yr old was the subject matter expert / co-instructor :)

I'm gonna give my eyes a rest now.

Local TV news has to fill that airtime with something. They're guaranteed success if they can prove that they're protecting the children from nasty preadators.

Frankly, I am very anti- !3375p33|<, and have acted aggressively against it on these forums in the past.

Are you serious? That sounds like a hoot. I wish someone there was taping it so we could all have a good chuckle watching it on Google Video.

Theres no linguistics committee that regulates how 1337 is spoken so people use different symbols for different things. For example. 1 can be used to replace L or I and 7 can be used for T or L.

ALL YOUR CHILDRENS ARE BELONGS TO US

Somebody set us up the bomb. Your children have no chance. Make your time.

And here is where the left turn of this thread leads to for those who are wondering WTF. The following link to the video should explain it.

http://allyourbase.planettribes.gamespy.com/video1_view.shtml

The brief history is that there was a game released in asia that Sega ended up buying/porting and then translated it to (very very poor) English for release in the US.

If someone is really trying to get at me using leetspeak, I will simply ignore such a person. As an entity which highly values high-leveled speech I would rather put all my effort in achieving a such complex conversation style and level that my parents also aren't capable to get the gist out of it.

Well, I do not have to hide anything. Why should children at all? This is some evidence that the parent-child relation is suffering more and more I assume.

I've never heard of it before. Leetspeak? I'm going to have to look that up.

When I was a kid, we liked to turn the calculator upside down and type 7734 to make hell. We thought that was devilishly fun!
