I have need for a left-handed Dvorak keyboard layout and don't want to spend the cash to actually buy one. I know that "dvorak" is an option setting for the "us" layout, is there a left-handed option or perhaps another solution?

I have just checked on my Ubuntu Edgy installation (Ubuntu 6.10).

Go to the Layout tab in the Keyboard Preferences and click on the button Add. You are presented a new window where you can choose the keyboard layout.

Under the U. S. English layout, there is among others also a 'Left Handed Dvorak' layout. I suppose it is what you are looking for.

Have a nice day.

another option is the left hand Keyboard layout ENTIkey++
it is easy to install on ubuntu and has some anvantages against the dvorak layout:
the return and backspace keys are easier to reach and you can use both hands easy if you want to type real fast
