View Full Version : Where's our LoCo Team?

bmathis

I'm just wondering where the California loCo team is? there hasn't been any activity in this forum. I would also like some more info so I can maybe look into joining.

Thanks

Agreed. There are tons of people in California but apparently none of them are interested in starting a LoCo.

Well I will start by saying I am in Southern California in the Irvine/Newport Beach area.

There is a Linux UG at UCLA. They were in awe of Ubuntu the day they installed Fedora Core 5 from which I have gone over to UB.

I agree. There should at the very least be a thread for Southern California and Northern California.

Perhaps we can start two new threads?

Is that Venice California, Flordia or Italy? I probably missed several others around and about. Venice Calif you'll have the girls, Flordia?? could be a retirement community, Italy? now having been there several times I can truthfully say it's a great place to visit...... Florence is better to live. Piza a bit like a college campus in the off season (of the college & tourists), Naples (my teenage stomping ground for a couple of years) has great character! No matter where you go, just go and enjoy. It's great to be able to travel and gain new experiences, friends etc.

Southern California also in the IE> Moreno Valley. I joined the California LOCO team about one to two months ago. I have also setup this for email list and maybe coordination for the California team.

http://www.socalopensource.org-a.googlepages.com/

I am planning on making it a free standing non-profit. I am willing to do some presentations and show different groups what can be done with FOSS (Free and Open Source Software). I plan on participating and perhaps getting a group together in the IE for installation party then at the next Software freedom day when it rolls around.

Hi all, I'm in the East Bay: home's in El Cerrito, w*rk's in Oakland. I've actually been a Debian developer since '98, and I run Debian at home, but I decided to try Ubuntu at w*rk, since that's what several other people were using, and it's a close-enough cousin that all the tools I expect are there (after a little judicious apt-getting).

Hello from Aliso Viejo, Orange county!

I joined this California loco team about 3 months ago. Very few activities or regular scheduled meetings anywhere from what I can tell. There are a whole bunch of us here in Cal but nothing structured yet in terms of consistent meetings in a designated city. However, I also belong to www.UUASC.org (http://www.uuasc.org/)
It is a Unix Users Association that meets every 2nd Monday of each month in Irvine Ca and is an all Unix/Linux friendly association. They have been pretty consistent for me here in orange county.

Hopefully one day in the near future our Cal Loco team will get something going like UUASC or any of the other LUG's here in California with Ubuntu as the focus. :)

seems like to me that there should be a couple teams in ca. Namely
a LA team, SF/Bay area team, Sacramento/nor cal team. Maybe they
could hold separate get togethers and then A couple times a year all
the local teams could come together for a state wide meeting. Also
the attendance of regular IRC meetings.

Thanks. I'm helping to put the Pasadena Ubuntu Hour together - if you're in Pasadena drop by Peet's Coffee at S. Lake and California Ave at 6PM on April 14.

Taking a cue from some of the other successful Ubuntu Hours, we're timing this one in conjunction with the monthly meeting of our local LUG, the San Gabriel Valley Linux User Group, which takes place at 7PM on the second Thursday of each month.

It's a short walk of just a couple blocks from Peet's to the CalTech Physics building where SGV LUG meets, so it's easy to attend both meetings.

Is there any one using ubuntu in San Jose?

There have been several Ubuntu Hours at Philz Coffee in San Jose, the last one was in June: http://loco.ubuntu.com/events/ubuntu-california/1007/detail/

But lately no one has had time to arrange one, if you're interested in meeting up with others and perhaps offering to come to a San Jose meetup if one happens I highly suggest signing up for our mailing list and expressing interest (our forums aren't very active, but our mailing list is):

https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-us-ca

We'll also be having a booth at the upcoming LinuxPicnic.org event at Sunnyvale Baylands Park (admittedly, not San Jose, but it's close).
