Hi everyone

I was just reading some articles about drm and our future. The main prosperity for DRM are mainstream formats like wmv, ra, mov. Well, they are all used for streaming video over the net and as u all know, we linux users encounter quite some problems with it.

Now the question - as open source is by deafult not restricting (actually linux is allowing drm modules with the linux kernel) is there any project for media servers/streams that are as good as the above mentioned and if not why not make one and spread it like firefox? That would allow users which do not like DRM access to any content they would like.

lets see some typings

cheers

JB

P.S. What is the official of ubuntu about DRM? Does anyone know?

Can't mpg be used for that? It's free right?

Yes, there is Ogg Theora and BBC's Dirac. Check their FAQs for more info. It'll take a while for them to catch on.

mpg format is pretty much perfect for this, and it is used fairly widely.
