Hey people!!.

Got an abstract request for you all...

got this video clip --> http://video.google.co.uk/videoplay?docid=7011395056332725085&q=3d+studio+max

and I recognise the background music from my childhood, but cannot put a name to the tune.

Can ANYONE help me here?? I would be VERY grateful indeed!!

Many thanks.

Matt

You got the itch on me now...I remember that music from some kind of educational program, perhaps on Channel 4? All I remember is a spinning crown in the title sequence.

...

I want to start a project for an open-source (back-end) application that can analyse a tune and store "metadata" on it in a database. It should then be able to compare those metadata with other scanned songs to provide a result. In this way, it should be able to say what the song is, if it has it in its database. A good application for the back-end would be as a web site.

The metadata should ideally consist of two basic elements: rhythm and intervals. It should be able to separate out different instruments, and analyse each to find the same.

I don't know where to begin...

Accoustic fingerprinting will be interesting to you then...

try here, (http://www.relatable.com/tech/trm.html) here, (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acoustic_fingerprint) and here. (http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn8973-music-fingerprinting-system-is-fastest-yet.html).....good luck.

Hmmm. I get NewScientist. Why didn't I see that article? Perhaps it was during the period when I didn't...

Thanks a lot, anyway! :)

Yeah, I think that crown was actually a gold box on a velvet cushion...I tried 'story box' and 'music box' at imdb.com; no luck yet!

Sorry I don't know the tune but the TV program you may be thinking of is the inestimable Trumpton (http://www.t-web.co.uk/trumpcam.htm) with similar music here (http://www.t-web.co.uk/musicbox.mid).

The "box" immediately made me think "picture box", for some reason. Could this be it?

Picture Box (http://imdb.com/title/tt0821873/?fr=c2l0ZT1kZnx0dD0xfGZiPXV8cG49MHxrdz0xfHE9cGljdH VyZSBib3h8ZnQ9MXxteD0yMHxsbT01MDB8Y289MXxodG1sPTF8 bm09MQ__;fc=1;ft=22;fm=1)

Edit:

Damn, this programme is obscure, but this reference to "having PICTURE BOX theme tune nightmares (http://64.233.183.104/search?q=cache:l12_lFTKEUkJ:www.ntk.net/1999/10/01/+%22picture+box%22+itv&hl=en&gl=uk&ct=clnk&cd=22&ie=UTF-8)" make it look like this is the one :)

Edit2:

Theme tune title (http://ubb.mojo4music.com/printthread.php?Board=UBB4&main=326042&type=post), and someone who claims to have it (http://www.btinternet.com/~mark.ashall/Themes.htm).

Edit3:

Hooray! (http://www.television-themes.co.uk/html/Miscellaneous.htm). I can't link to the mp3 directly as they check referrers.

Aha, thank you! I'm sure he'll be pleased when he logs back in too.

I was very young when I saw the show too and was very freaked by the music, and it seems I still am.

I see you've got it now, but you could always use a Song Tapper like http://www.swisstok.ch/index.php?showtopic=1812 to find out what song it is. It wont always work but it might!

Haunting. How cool that would that be to have the revolving box as a boot screen? :p
