I'm new to the Ubuntu forums but not to Linux. I've used Linux sense RH 4.x running a beowolf on 486's was fun. I'm interested in Xubuntu for use on old hardware as I have access to old hardware.

About Me
I have a Golden Retriever (Franky) who keeps be busy and happy at home. I love to fish, hike, and play computer games (CoD2).
I work in I/T for a large retail company (not walmart), I do DNS and DHCP administration with about 900,000 IP address use.

Before I left for work I started the download of Xubuntu for my laptop Compaq Armada M700. I've tried FC6 and Kubuntu but my laptop will not perform fast enought using either Gnome or KDE.
I hope Xubuntu will let me replace XP Pro on my laptop.

I've already found some interesting threads and hope I can contribute.

Just a note, you don't have to download Xubuntu, you can simply install xubuntu-desktop from within kubuntu.

Something else to consider is something like Fluxbox, should be plenty fast.

I would highly recommend OpenBox as well. I run Xu or Openbox depending on my mood.

Here are some links I keep track of....
