Okay, this is called an XP easter egg, but I decided to try it in linux.

Open the terminal and paste this into it

telnet towel.blinkenlights.nl

and sit back and watch.

Neat, huh?

That is absolute genius!

I was thinking just a few hours ago that someone somewhere MUST have done something matrix-y with terminal- anyone know of anything?

And yeah, we all know it's telnet, not an easter egg, but it's still cool.

I wonder if you googled if you find some more? Post 'em if you find 'em!

Try these in terminal:

aptitude moo

aptitude -v moo

aptitude -v -v moo

aptitude -v -v -v moo

aptitude -v -v -v -v moo

aptitude -v -v -v -v -v moo

One after the other.

It's quite funny.

apt-get moo

also

and

Although the first one is cooler, really.

You can do the same thing with mplayer and the aalib video output option.

It's great for us sub-1Ghz fans, whose 2Mb VRAM laptops don't quite have the guts to keep up otherwise. ;)

I used to do that in school when I got bored. I've never watched the whole thing through though, but I do think that they should add one thing; Whenever R2-DS beeps the terminal should make the computer to do a console beep or two. Would be pretty funny :)

I already knew that, and I found the Matrix-Bullet time yesterday :D

Try this:

aptitude -h

And read the last phrase :D

also do:

apt-get

And also read the last line.

Finally:

apt-get moo

And you though it was all about Tux...

Either you're joking and I misunderstood or you're serious and stupid. ;) Just kidding, but Greedo does shoot first.I saw "A New Hope" in 1977 when it was simply called "Star Wars." In the original Han shot first (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Han_Shot_First). Lucas changed it later.

For me it's just an amusing little thing. I mean, it's just a movie. Among some uber-geeks you will find a strong emotional attachment to this issue. It's also become a running joke on the internet.

Some references:
http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Han_shoots_first
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Han_Shot_First

EDIT: unless of course you mean in this ASCII version. I admit I didn't watch that far into it to see who shot first this time around. :)

There is something else they did that gets on my nerves worse than this. In the final scenes of Return of the Jedi after Darth Vader died, they show the apparitions of Anakin, Yoda, and Obi Wan. It kind of ticked me off when they digitally superimposed the new, young Anakin over the guy that originally played that part. They didn't put Ewan McGregor over Obi Wan, so they should have left Anakin alone, too.

That's because you never see old Ewan McGregor. IT ties in nicely with the other ones.

Plus, if you're that die-hard that it bothered you, don't watch the remastered version.

I could be wrong, but I think they show the old Anakin when Luke rips Darth Vader's mask off. Then all of the sudden, he's the young Anakin again, and Obi Wan is still the old Obi Wan. I like what matthew said:

Don't get me started. Why not repaint the Mona Lisa using Angelina Jolie's face?

They also re-dubbed the stormtrooper and Boba Fett voices in the original movies so that they have Tagalog accents, like Jango Fett in the new trilogy.

Far superior to The Phantom Menace.

Oh, and fyi...

RedLetterMedia: The Phantom Menace Review (1 of 7) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FxKtZmQgxrI)

RedLetterMedia: Attack of the Clones Review (1 of 9) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CfBhi6qqFLA&feature=related)

Get past the "big dumb voice" and "horror slasher psycho" bits, and you'll find a review of the new ones and comparison with the old ones which says everything I have ever said or thought of, and more.
