Anyone reads Time Magazine? Linus Torvalds was named one of the heroes of the last 60 years... a revolutionary.

Funnily enough Bill Gates is never mentioned as a hero...not even as a businessman :)

Afaik, there is an experimental native support in mplayer for this codec:
Windows Media Video 9 (WMV3)
And the support for the previous version is already there and enabled by default:
Windows Media Video 7/8 (WMV1/2)

Stallman would have never got anywhere without Torvalds and Torvalds would have never gotten anywhere without Stallman.

I never thought he'd be mentioned but it's great anyway to have him honored for providing the emphasis of the only real alternative movement against the pressing monopoly of propietary software.

Stallman would have never got anywhere without Torvalds and Torvalds would have never gotten anywhere without Stallman.

People used GPL'd software years before the Linux kernel came along.

My 2 cents: i think both are heroes, Linus for starting the Free movement & Gates for providing jobs to alot of people. Two very different ideals/goals. Maybe cruel to compare both together...:???:

RMS started the free software movement, Linus is the creator and maintainer of one of the key softwares (in this case the Linux kernel).

And Gates in my modest opinion in anything less a hero, after all how many companies gone bankrupt due to Microsoft illegal monopolize tactics? not to mention m$ closed formats that prevent the IT industry of moving forward.
