Pitfdll (http://ronald.bitfreak.net/pitfdll.php) makes libxine totally unneeded in Hoary. gstreamer-pitfdll can load w32codecs just like Xine and Mplayer so totem-gstreamer could play Quicktime movies and other proprietary formats just like totem-xine.

Agreed, I would like to try it, but I really feel more comfortable with in-channel distribution. my only question is the potentially legailities seeing as canonical cannot provide many of the products you mention. still, it's only a middle layer.
