Dual Cortex: Using Ubuntu in a Virtual Machine DOES NOT count as being a true user ;) - just a hunch!

Dual Cortex
November 9th, 2006, 04:46 AM
Funny thing is that I don't use VMWARE or even dual boot with MS Windows.
Your post is just completely immature, 'scr*w them'? That's just anti-ms fashion.
To unlokia and sailingboarder: Anyone who turns back to Windows because of this post deserves NOT to use Linux. Is Linux a religion? am I offending anyone with this post?
Some of the longest threads on this forum are related to MS; providing a release date seems almost unethical to you?
And what's with the 'M$'? Will MS end up being called you-know-what?

Part of the reason Windows costs so much is because of people like you. Granted, it is also part greed, but when people ask "why does it cost so much when it cost $xx a couple of years ago?", Microsoft point their finger at you.

Thank you for messing it up for the rest of us.

Don't come on here and flame us please, or I will make sure you get banned, should your arrogant remarks continue. Speak politely and like an adult, or don't bother at all. Did your Mother never teach you that?

I've argued with someone in a cafe before. We were "chatting loudly". :) I've also been to a cafe where they allowed D&D players to game weekly, that was fun.

Dual Cortex,

No harm meant. But even talking about pirating software, especially stuff I will eventually have to use/pay for, kinda ticks me off.

Okay - I apologise for that AND my hypocracy... but just don't discuss piracy on here please.

(A) It is bad enough talking about piracy
(B) Who would be DESPARADO enough to pirate VISTA?!!
(C) This ain't MS forums!
(D)... hmmm....
(E) If you're downloading p2p copies of VISTA, you're undermining COUNTLESS principals of FOSS and GNU... shame really!

SuSE? You mean those guys that are in bed with microsoft?

That makes absolutely no sense whatsoever, on ANY planet!

That makes absolutely no sense whatsoever, on ANY planet!

A) talking about it is not bad; doing it is another thing.
B) i dont know if you're being sarcastic or not, but many, many people would pirate Vista

C) so? that doesn't mean that a person can't type the word microsoft in the forum, does it?
D)...
E) actually, if you think about it, you're thinking in a FLOSS way in a sense, because you think that software should be free so much that, you download $400 software without a care in the world

and please, if you dont agree with a thread's opinion, simply don't post there, and move on to something else.

Hundreds of millions of people use Microsoft products quite happily (and that's a cautious estimate). There's no need to be condescending.

The release of the next version of the most popular operating system on the planet is news for linux users too (not to mention that quite a few of the 200 000 forum members probably use Windows too)...

Prepare the gFort? load the Canon? get the piKemen to stand to attention?

Information is always welcome here, ignore people who would put this thread down.

As a programmer I am mortaly offended by software pirates, just because I licience all my software as GPL doesn't mean I think everyone else should too.

I disagree with 'piracy' but then again I disagree with the *term* 'piracy'!. Pirates sailed oceans, took over ships and murdered people. I hardly see the connection between THAT, and copying software?!.

Ask Richard Stallman on his opinion on this :D

DoctorMO

copy right infringement.

unlokia
November 9th, 2006, 02:57 PM
DoctorMO - I think, that in your rush to get your point across about copyright infringement, you haven't READ what I wrote.

Where is the analogy of bearded men in three-cornered hats, sailing the high seas on gigantic ships, murdering and pillaging, RELEVANT to copying software?. It is just one of MANY, stupid phrases, coined without a moments thought, to it's ACTUAL FACTUAL relevance to the subject to which it refers.

To call someone a pirate is to call them a murderer... I would appreciate it if you took the time to read my post PROPERLY next time, as I did yours. It is common courtesy!. Thanks.

This is the Cafe. Topics range anywhere from Microsoft to evolution to what people had for breakfast this morning to what their cat is currently doing.

This is an open forum for open discussion. You are free to choose to ignore this topic. *** insult removed ***

Yes I am WELL aware of the dictionary definition.. you miss my point. As to the insults you gave... simply YOUR opinion dude, and makes no difference to me whatsoever, what *you* perceive me as, because I have been involved in a civil discussion, and quite honestly, I invite you to mind your own business.

The opinions of a stranger are REALLY none too important, if he is coming out with comments such as you just have!.

I am a respectful member of this forum - goodbye!

People hate anything will the word Microsoft, don't waste your time with these people, I'm glad to hear to hear its coming out, Dual-booting with Vista will be a nice upgrade from dual-booting with XP, and the Suse Linux Beta 2 torrent is coming out on friday, one day late :(

im of course going to wait the traditional 2-5 months before upgrading, that way they get at least some of the major bugs ironed out not found in beta testing

as long as windows doesnt force me to reinstall windows every 3 months i will be happy. Although its probley from horribly written drivers and software that most likely casues my problems its still nice to not have to reinstall every 3 months.

This thread is somewhat amusing, perhaps a little over the top. But what I keep wondering is why anybody who isn't a pc gamer will want to upgrade to vista. Any ideas? I mean what is it offering besides an eye-candy rip off on OSX?

oh, and I almost forgot, exorbitantly priced licenses!

I'm personally all for piracy... but as it's illegal, be careful about discussing it here on the forums. No links & similar. Discussion is allowed, however.

But pirate Vista? Come on... get some good music instead, it's really worth it.

unlokia
November 10th, 2006, 02:09 PM
Yes indeed!. I would second that opinion - it is not THE most clever thing, to admit to copyright theft, in a forum dedicated to FOSS *and* one that has your IP address. Duhh!. :)

This is a tired old BSA-style argument and has been refuted many times. Software piracy has little to nothing to do with the cost of software. This is especially true when we are talking about a product like Windows that already has a saturated market and is sold to hundreds of millions. The only thing that drives down prices is competition, plain and simple. Likewise, the lack of competition drives prices up.

Unfortunately, I will probably have to upgrade my work laptop to Vista at some point in time. Fortunately, that laptop also dual-boots Ubuntu because I also do some Linux development at work. What will worry me the most about upgrading for work is that I mostly do embedded systems development under Windows and the development tools/emulators usually have real problems when you change Windows (we had to keep a couple of Win98 machines around for about two extra years because of that).

As far as PC gamers go, the hard-core gamers that update their systems every year will get it. And MS will be pushing at least their games to DX10 only. I've heard that Crysis and the new Halo will be DX10 only.

It's not just having to buy Vista to be able to run new games that worries me - think about the likely hardware requirements  I'd better start saving now :(

happy-and-lost
November 10th, 2006, 06:17 PM
Blech. The hardware requirements are so stupid it took 300mb RAM on my machine (below) to play Solitaire. SOLITARIE!
Thanks, but no thanks M$.

Imagine the speed decrease (if ANY more of a speed lag is possible LMAO!) on pre-loaded DELL etc pc's, with Vista - FULL of 'shovelware' like AOL, NORTON blah blah.... ARGGGGGHH!!!!

Linux rules - windows has holes that make a sieve look watertight.

I dislike it!!

Vista is already available for full downloads on some piracy sites, with keygens that are genuine, so there is a possibility that when the official release happens some genuine machines will not work as their serial keys have already been used!

...and then the owners will be arrested for leaking the keys early! Man, sucks to be those guys. :P

I'm forced to use windows at work. I won't be missing XP, but I surely hope that we can wait a little before upgrading. A sort of vista sp1 or something...

In as much as Microsoft may tant the computing world, windows only vendors that will have nothing to do with any other os, I believe may cause the most harm.
