My HDD in my desktop has finally given it's all. It doesn't even show up anymore when trying to boot, everything just stops.

I'm coming to you still, though...using a dapper live CD and my backup files and bookmarks on an external USB HDD. I'm online shopping for a new PC, maybe a laptop or notebook, but just wanted to stop in and say....

I once had the same trouble, but manage to save the data in the disk using a Knopix live CD as rescue OS and then send the data to a life raft on another networked machine.
