It's not really new I saw it like a year ago and doubt it will be very popular in that price range, how often do you look at the keyboard while playing quake for example ?

well... i know it's quite unuseful when you know an application, but it would be "comfortable" when you play a new game or use a new application,but...

that optimus keyboard is cool, especially for gamers, as if you scroll down you can see how you can turn the images shown on the keyboard on what button goes wear, useful since i play a lot of games and i haven't memorized all the buttons yet :D

but it is also very expensive, like 400 dollars or something

That would indeed be perfect for people who need several layouts, if the keyboard itself changed in the same time the layout is changed.
But how will it be controlled?
And also, I guess the price will be huge.

I need ergonomic. :/ But that keyboard would be extra super crazy cool for me -- I touch type, but looking at the keys helps me reinforce my knowledge of which keys are where. I've switched to dvorak and I've relabeled my keys so they have dvorak in large black print and qwerty in small red print, and now my qwerty skills are all screwed up, partially because trying to type qwerty on a dvorak-labelled keyboard is such a mind-f*ck.

(yeah, I know, I shouldn't need qwerty anymore, but being dvorak only is such a handicap, I'd rather be bi-keyboardal.)

I remember seeing that not too long ago. It was in fact in 2005 that I remember seeing that one there. WHich I thought as well cool too. I remember seeing as well another computer I should be more correct about that. Similar IDea. But way too costly though for the average user. It went more along the lines of for financial use or for really high computational purposes use only. Bu they went belly up not too long ago. They had a 12 Processor slim line like the nextstation machines that Steve had made. And a 96 processor machine. (Weight about 150 pounds fully equiped.) WOuld have been nice to have seen ubuntu on those two amchines. But they used Red-hat instead. Anyways. I like that idea though for the keyboard to be OS independan though. Would make life a lot easier. Instead of the good old cheap keyboards.

Lebedev is providing open specs for this keyboard, thus it will indeed be very Linux friendly. Expect a driver and configurator to arrive very shortly after release, maybe even at release.

Its a cool keyboard..................IF they ever realased it. I have been waiting years for this thing to come out, its been making the rounds of forums for over 2 years now and yet its over a year past its original release date.


Looks cool but dont expect to see this things come out anytime soon. Whats worse is now they have the paintant on it so no one else who is actauly going to start selling them can make one either. They have effectively killed this tech :(

It's pretty old. They released the small one but not the big one. It is platform independent as it includes an SDK and as far as I understand the specs are open. It won't be a very good investment though. The price will be around $200 and it uses OLED so it won't live very long.

I agree with Spano... the IBM model M clicky keyboard is one of the best ever for positive keyboard feel and longevity/durability. Once you have used a clicky keyboard everything else just feels "cheap" :D IMHO

Edit: You can find the old IBM clicky keyboards at garage sales sometimes and on eBay. You have to watch the shipping on eBay though, as they are heavy they can be expensive to ship if the distance is great. Not pretty but they are a joy to type on and last forever! :)

seriously? Clicky annoys me. It's loud when you're trying to work at night (and everyone else is asleep), and clicky just slows me down. I definitely prefer soft keys, it's much easier to type fast with them.

I don't think very many will have the money as it will cost you $1564.37.

Also they are like really nice cars, there aren't that many of them being produced.
