I just read over there at LXer.com that there is a new fully-free version of ubuntu.

By "fully-free", Kerry means "Absolutely no closed-source firmware/drivers". Ubuntu does have a couple of bits of closed-source code which is installed by default (Restricted repo).

personally, imho, i think it wont work out. basically, theyve taken ubuntu (which is entirely free code, with the option to install closed source stuff), and just removed the latter option out.

whats the point. if you wanna use ubuntu with only free code, theres nothing stopping you. in fact, thats the whole point of ubuntu. i think that the developer of this new distro needs to re-read the pages that state ubuntus goal.
